Join the fun at the 2013 March for Babies!

Saint Luke's Health System is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the 2013 March for Babies, the annual fundraising walk for the March of Dimes. We need our employees' help and participation to make a major difference in the lives of mothers and newborns across our region!

For 75 years, the March of Dimes has been fighting premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. Supporting babies and mothers is particularly important to Saint Luke's in 2013 as we celebrate our 100th year of delivering babies at Saint Luke's Hospital. It's the perfect time to recognize Saint Luke's long-standing partnership with the March of Dimes, including being the first March of Dimes Family Support Program in Kansas City, and its impact on countless families in our community.

When: Sunday, April 28, 8 a.m. registration; 10 a.m. walk for either 1 mile or 2.5 miles OR you can just come and enjoy morning activities!

Why: Saint Luke's Health System is the premier sponsor for this year's walk, with SLH CEO Julie Quirin serving as citywide chair. We have pledged 1,000 SLHS walkers and $200,000. By participating and fundraising we'll remind Kansas City why we're No. 1.

Where: Power & Light District in Kansas City, Mo.

Join us for a morning of family fun with Radio Disney, live bands, and a kids' zone filled with fun activities. SLHS will host a special tent with face painting, birthday treats, and photo booths. The March of Dimes will provide lunch following the walk.

Lindsey Huber, R.N., receives March DAISY Award

Lindsey Huber, R.N., received the DAISY Award in recognition for her compassionate and caring nursing skills.

Lindsey Huber, R.N., received the DAISY Award in recognition of her compassionate and caring nursing skills as an R.N. on the former East 1, now B Level of the Neuroscience Institute. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease.

Huber was nominated for the DAISY Award by a former patient's husband. In the nomination he wrote, "Sunday, July 29, 2012: This date I was visiting my wife and was extremely worried about how I can manage her care once she is released from her present stay here at Saint Luke's. Lindsey provided lengthy information regarding a rehab arrangement to help with the transition from hospital to home. I had never heard of it and it sounded like a possible blessing for us."

Huber is a Kansas City native, but graduated with her B.S.N. from Saint Louis University in 2009. She has worked on the neuroscience unit at Saint Luke's Hospital since graduation. She is currently pursuing an adult N.P. degree from the University of Kansas. She has two sisters and a brother, who is a Catholic priest in Rome. Huber enjoys the strong shared governance and multidisciplinary collaboration at Saint Luke's.

On March 20, the Nursing Recruitment and Retention Committee and the Neuro B Level staff surprised Huber with this DAISY Award and a breakfast that included Cinnabon® Cinnamon Rolls. She also received the Healer's Touch Sculpture, an award certificate, DAISY pin, and parking spot.

Congratulations to Lindsey Huber, who like so many Saint Luke's Hospital nurses, deserves a big thank you for her extraordinary and compassionate nursing care.

Do you know a nurse deserving of a DAISY Award? Send an email to daisyaward@saint-lukes.org or pick up a nomination form located in most SLH waiting rooms.

About Cabot

Cabot Westside Medical and Dental Center strives to create healthier families and a stronger community. The clinic provides a full range of dental and health services to more than 7,900 patients through 23,000 visits each year. Nearly half of these patients are children.

As a not-for-profit health clinic, Cabot treats anyone who comes to the facility, regardless of ability to pay. For those without adequate insurance, services are provided on a sliding fee scale.

Cabot is unique among area community health clinics in that it is one of the few that offers dental care. It is also one of the few-and perhaps the only-with a fully bilingual staff. As such, our Spanish-speaking patients feel at home and can communicate directly and comfortably with their health care providers.

Thank you to CV Lab

CV Quality would like to thank the CV Lab staff for all they do to assist us in collecting data on PCI patients. The CV Lab staff captures every detail of the procedure, and although some of those details have no immediate purpose for the individual patient in the CV Lab, they are used to improve care for all patients who have a PCI. We pull nearly 300 unique pieces of data on each PCI patient utilizing the CV Lab's documentation. The data is used to make changes to practice that impact post-procedure bleeding and complications, mortality, and intervention time.

With the help of the great staff in the CV Lab, CV Quality is able to pull accurate, reliable, and timely data. Thanks so much to the CV Lab for accurately completing the unique documentation that is, in turn, used to better our care.
