SLHS and March of Dimes partner for stronger, healthier babies
Join our team - and the fun - at the 2013 March for Babies
Saint Luke's Health System is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the 2013 March for Babies, the annual fundraising walk for the March of Dimes. We need our employees' help and participation to make a major difference in the lives of mothers and newborns across our region.
For 75 years, the March of Dimes has been fighting premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. Supporting babies and mothers is particularly important to Saint Luke's in 2013 as we celebrate our 100th year of delivering babies at Saint Luke's Hospital. It's the perfect time to recognize Saint Luke's long-standing partnership with the March of Dimes, including being the first March of Dimes Family Support Program in Kansas City, and its impact on countless families in our community.
When: Sunday, April 28, 8 a.m. registration; 10 a.m. walk for either 1 mile or 2.5 miles OR you can just come and enjoy morning activities!
Why: Saint Luke's Health System is the premier sponsor for this year's walk!
Where: Power & Light District in Kansas City, Mo.
Our goal is to have 1,000 SLHS walkers and raise $200,000 for March of Dimes. Funds raised go to research and programming to prevent babies from being born prematurely. The goal is to stop infant morbidities and mortalities due to premature births.
The morning will be very kid-friendly and family-oriented! Radio Disney will be there starting at 8 a.m., along with other bands during and after the walk. There will be a special kid zone filled with fun activities for kids to enjoy! SLHS will also have a huge tent with kids' activities including caricatures and photo booths. Following the walk, March of Dimes will provide lunch!
The money raised at the March for Babies helps more moms have full-term pregnancies. It also helps doctors, nurses, and researchers ensure premature babies have the best outcomes possible.
Robin Evans is the March of Dimes contact at Saint Luke's Hospital. For more information about joining a team, or contributing to our efforts, call Robin at 816-932-9045 or email revans@saint-lukes.org.

A message from Rebecca Sesler, Vice President, Marketing & Communications:
On behalf of the SLHS leadership team and Board, I am pleased to announce that Saint Luke's Health System will be launching a new advertising campaign in April designed to increase the public's awareness of Saint Luke's Health System. The campaign will first appear via an outdoor 'blitz' with billboards located throughout the metropolitan area, and will soon extend to print publications, television, advertising on websites, Facebook, and even employee communications.
The objective is to appeal directly to consumers with a message that is uniquely Saint Luke's - one that celebrates the very real and deep connection we have to the community, that features the life-saving and life-enhancing outcomes of our superb clinical care, and that reinforces our commitment to the overall health and well-being of our patients, families, and friends. We believe it will stand out among the health care advertising that's out there and create a favorable impression not only of our health system, but of the amazing doctors, nurses, and employees who comprise it.
The next phase of the advertising campaign will promote our services through examples of patients who are able to 'live life' thanks to the care they received at Saint Luke's.
Please turn up the volume on your computer, and then click above to view a glimpse of the campaign's look and feel. We welcome your comments and hope you are inspired by what you see. What you do inspires us each and every day.

Saint Luke's Facebook Challenge FAQ
 |
Click on the image to view the YouTube video!
|
Saint Luke's Health System (SLHS) has issued a challenge to employees to help us enhance our presence on the popular social networking platform Facebook. The goal is to reach 5,000 "likes" on our Facebook page by June 15. Social media sites like Facebook are another marketing channel for us to use to reach out and engage directly with patients, future patients, and the community at large. The Marketing Department manages the Facebook page and tracks results of the challenge.
Following are some frequently asked questions about the challenge and our use of Facebook:
If I can't access Facebook from my Saint Luke's desktop computer, can I still participate? Facebook usage is growing on mobile phones, which have no restrictions on access, as well as on home computers. We know that many employees use Facebook at home or on the go via their phones. For smart phone access, we have included a QR code on the recent video to allow employees to go directly to Facebook and "like" our page. This QR code can be scanned to access the Saint Luke's Health System Facebook page:
As an employee, why should I "like" Saint Luke's on my Facebook page?
Our Facebook page is a valuable source of system news and other information. We often post media stories about Saint Luke's, reports on research conducted within the system, and other health and wellness related content. Our Facebook page does not only include Saint Luke's news, but community news, healthy recipes, lifestyle trends, fun facts, etc.
What about those of us who don't use Facebook?
We've heard from many people who aren't on Facebook but still recommend Saint Luke's and tell their friends and neighbors about our great care. This is also a valuable contribution and can achieve the same purpose to spread the word about the system and our mission.
What's the real value of increasing our Facebook likes?
Many organizations, in and outside of health care, are significantly increasing their presence in social media platforms such as Facebook. Social media allows for more two-way connections between an organization and its audience and can therefore be a valuable tool for interaction. In addition, the networking has a multiplier effect in that, when you "like" us on Facebook, all of the people within your network can see your action and may be led to our page as well (similar to placing a bumper sticker on your car). The value of social media is enhanced by the numerous multiplied interactions. It's another avenue for us to reach the community and remind them that Saint Luke's cares and is dedicated to meeting their health care needs.
What about privacy? If I "like" the SLHS system page, will my personal information be compromised?
Absolutely not! Simply "liking" an organization's Facebook page does not give it access to your personal information - you are not becoming a "friend" of Saint Luke's, you are simply supporting our organization. Facebook allows you to control your privacy on their platform using a number of privacy controls that are featured on the system. For more information, click here.

Neurodiagnostics is the study of the brain and nervous system. Procedures performed by technologists include electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials (EP), intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), long-term monitoring (LTM), and continuous EEG in the Intensive Care Unit (cEEG/ICU). Technologists play an important role in performing these various tests to aid in diagnosing a variety of disease processes.
Neurodiagnostic Week is celebrated annually during the third week of April. We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate, honor, and thank our dedicated neurodiagnostic techs: Rick Hamad, Rosie Hill, Tonya Britton, Roderick Dominguez, Stacy Shaw, Jennifer Bergman, and Pam Bitner.

As a new volunteer, you would have the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team devoted to continuously improving the quality of our patient care. In addition, you would have the wonderful opportunity to provide one-on-one support and caring that would bring comfort to the patients and families we serve.
