President's Message:
Tomorrow we will celebrate a very special B'nai Mitzvah Reunion Shabbat, with alumni of previous classes chanting haftorah "Emor" together, in a service that highlights our congregation's commitment to preparing adults, both men and women, for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.
Participants include: Mishka Luft and Bonnie Cramer, who will give the D'var Torah, and Joan Brown (Class of 1998), Marilyn Elson (Class of 1994) and Alexandra Schmidt (B'nai Mitzvah teacher) who will read Torah. The following alumni will chant the haftorah: Ruth Fraster, Barrie Handelman, Arlene Mendelson, and Barbara Wasser (all Class of 1976), Anita Merims (Class of 1978), and Este Sylvetsky (Class of 1993). Marvin Garfinkel, the group's teacher, has been working diligently with these alumni for several months, focusing on Hebrew pronunciation, trope reading and cantillation.
Organizers of the event are: Ruth Fraster, Phyllis Friedson (Class of 1980), Jessica Many (Class of 1990), Cheryl Ratner (Class of 1993), Sylvia Winer (Class of 1976), and Sharon Wohl (Class of 1995). Our B'nai Mitzvah classes date back to 1976, with the last one being held in 2007.
The Kiddush following Shabbat is sponsored by the 120th Anniversary Committee, following its motto of "Honoring Our Past and Preserving Our Future."
Shabbat Shalom and congratulations to all the participants!
Mery Gross
