Fellow alumni and friends,
As a proud alumna, I have had the privilege of serving both our college's Society of Alumni & Friends and Ohio University's Alumni Association Board of Directors. I am so excited to share an initiative that is being embraced at both the university and college levels.
A dedicated group of women at Ohio University has founded ohiowomen. This group will work to engage and support women of Ohio University while creating opportunities to connect with the university and network. The main areas of focus for ohiowomen are to identify, engage, educate, connect and steward fellow alumnae. Initiatives will involve targeted communications, special events, a biennial conference and nominations for university awards and key volunteer positions.
At the college level, I am honored to chair a new subgroup within our Society of Alumni & Friends, ohiowomen in medicine. Our purpose is to work as an extension of ohiowomen to engage female alumnae and friends of the Heritage College in a more purposeful way. A small group of us are working on the "how and what," and we want to share this with our fellow alumnae and get your input.
Ladies, please join us for "This One's for the Girls!" -- a women's-only happy hour on Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Club at the Hilton at Easton in Columbus, Ohio. This event will take place during the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium (OOS) and will serve as our official kick-off. It will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other, network and hear your ideas about how ohiowomen in medicine can support you in your path as a female physician. Even if you are not able to attend the symposium this year, we want you to join us for the happy hour. To learn more or RSVP, contact Laurie Lach at lach@ohio.edu or call her office at 740-593-2151.
Speaking of the symposium, I think everyone will enjoy the keynote address given on Saturday at 11 a.m. by Alison Levine, team captain of the first American Women's Everest Expedition. She will discuss overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her presentation, On the Edge: The Art of High-Impact Leadership. You can read more about Levine in this issue of Touchpoints. It's a salient message and I encourage you to attend.
I look forward to seeing you all at the symposium.
All the best,
Paige Gutheil Henderson, DO ('02)
