National Anthem Sing-A-Long

Boone County Schools joined students in their individual schools across the country Friday to celebrate the National Anthem with a simultaneous sing-a-long.

1,500 students from Boone County Schools attended the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for the second year in a row for the sing-a-long.

Students learned about the words and meaning of the flag and sang the first stanza. This is the third annual simultaneous sing-a-long event created by the 9/12 Generation Project. The project aims to bring students together - as the world came together - on September 12, 2001.  Below are pictures from many of our schools and the Freedom Center.

The field trip to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (NURFC) is a partnership between the American Public Education Foundatioin (APEC) and NURFC in collaboration with Boone County School board member and board member of NURFC Mr. Ed Massey.

Debbie Zegarra, Special Education Teacher, North Pointe Elementary

Debbie Zegarra of North Pointe Elementary School is the September 2016 Break The Mold Winner!  Mrs. Zegarra was nominated by parent, Karen Morelli, who says "I could go on and on about Mrs. Zegarra, but I am afraid that the main library branch of Boone County could not hold the volumes of the books of praises that I could produce for her. She truly goes above and beyond the call of duty in order to help her students. She is always prepared with well thought out, meaningful lesson plans. And engages her students in unique and novel ways to keep them motivated, on task, and interested in their work. Mrs. Zegarra is a loving teacher who will do anything to see her students succeed and is a master at parent and teacher communication.

MEDFEST
Free Dental, Vision, Hearing and Sports Physicals

Boone County Schools is teaming up with Special Olympics Kentucky to offer a health related field trip called MedFest.
MedFest provides free dental, vision, and hearing screenings and a a sports physical exam.  The exams are are conducted by volunteer medical professionals and are free.   MedFest screenings include: medical history, height and weight, blood pressure, a cardiology test, musculoskeletal test, orthopedic tests, abdominal evaluation, and if needed a referral for follow up care.

MedFest was created to offer the physical exam that all athletes need prior to participating in Special Olympics sports programming. It is sometimes the first exposure these athletes have to medical care. In many cases, life-threatening conditions have been found and subsequently treated thanks to MedFest.

Contact your child's Special Education teacher if you are interested. The MedFest field trip is limited to the first 250 students that submit and return their completed paperwork.  All medical forms and referrals for follow up care will be sent to the students' homes.

MedFest is Monday November 7th at St. Elizabeth's Training and Education Center, 3861 Olympic Blvd. in Erlanger.  Bus Transportation will be provided.
