GOVERNOR'S CUP CELEBRATION
Unveiling of the Governor's Cup

Kentucky moves up in the top ten category for the 2014 Governor's Cup.  Site Selection Magazine says it's for total projects per capita in the magazine's annual recognition of new job opportunity announcements in a state.  Governor Steve Beshear claimed the Commonwealth's trophy with 258 qualifiying projects in the state.

The arrival of the 2014 Governor's Cup was celebrated in style last week as it was presented on a specifically created robotic platform controlled and driven by The Brainy Bot students of Ryle High School.

The Governor's Cup unveiling is about shining a light on the partnerships that help build Kentucky's economy, grow jobs and create success for industries and communities.

The Governor's Cup is 15 inches tall and weighs 6 ½ pounds.  The base is 7 ½  inches wide and the handles of the cup are 11 inches wide.  See pictures of the unveiling below.

Good News Items: Break The Mold

Break The Mold: Natasha Averett

Natasha Averett, an Honors Biology Teacher at Cooper High School is the May 2015 Break The Mold winner.

A student that didn't want to be in Natasha's class but had to be because of a scheduling conflict nominated her for Break The Mold. Elijah Prather says he had heard Ms. Averett was crazy. What he later learned is that she was crazy about her students succeeding. Elijah writes that from the beginning of her class he felt the pressure and stress of a heavy workload and all he really wanted was a class that would give him the easy "A." But he quickly found out that was not going to happen in Ms. Averett's class. He started pulling C's on tests and on his report card until he asked her for help on studying and organizing. Elijah says she gave him tips on how to study, how to set and reach goals and he says she taught he and his fellow classmates lessons on work ethic, responsibility and social skills with students. He says he's a better student because of Ms. Averett. Elijah who is only in 9th grade is pretty sure Ms. Averett is already one of the best teachers he will ever have. And he adds the only way to pair the word crazy with Ms. Averett is to call her crazy-fun!
