Congratulations to the new 2014-15 Boone County Youth Cabinet. The Youth Cabinet is made up of 20 students, 15 of which come from all four Boone County High Schools as listed below.

Justin Reed, a junior at Ryle High has always pursued leadership skills and opportunities and hopes to one day be the President of the United States! Ashley Ward of Conner High and Gabriella Wirasakti of Cooper High both hope this experience will better prepare them for college and their lives ahead as they prepare to be future leaders as well. Also a part of the group Joanna Shutt of Boone County High and a friend Andrea Bussell Walton-Verona are both interested in understanding the inner workings of government on all levels. They both hope to combine volunteerism and leadership in future government roles.
The students began their first session at the Camp Ernst YMCA Saturday with Superintendent Dr. Randy Poe to welcome them. Then it was a day full of bonding and leadership activities at the camp. The students enjoyed activities such as Elbow Tag, Rock Wall climbing and Zip Lining.
The Boone County Youth Cabinet was established more than nine years ago by the Boone County Fiscal Court. It is staffed by the Judge/Executive's Office and supported by RC Durr YMCA. The Cabinet consists of young people in the eleventh grade and meets monthly. Members include:
* Representatives from high schools in Boone County (public, private and parochial) nominated by the school administration or application by students at large. * Members appointed by the Judge/Executive Purpose
* To improve the County's ability to positively affect the lives of young people * To help students develop in the areas of leadership and civic responsibility * To encourage teens to become familiar with the legal and judicial process * To engage them in decision-making and service learning * To better coordinate our community's efforts and services for young people
Crime Scene Investigation Class at Ryle High
Students returned to school at Ryle last Friday and this Monday to what will be a year long assignment/case. It's the kick-off of their Biomedical course. First case study: a murder scene. The investigation will have monthly updates. It's called Project Lead The Way, a projected based learning class that explores the sciences, math and technology involved in STEM.
