Boone County School District Wins Stuff The Bus Again!
Thank you to the parents, students and community supporters of The Boone County School District. Stuff the Bus is an annual competition between the Kenton County School District and the Boone County School District to see which district could get their communities to turn out and stuff their bus with the most school supplies. Boone County has won the competition for the third straight year! The competition is sponsored by Chick-fil-A. It was held Tuesday in their parking lot on Houston Road in Florence. Boone County won and will receive an additional $500 donation to our district from Chick-fil-A.

Summer Physical Education
Summer PE in the Boone County School district just wrapped up at Cooper High. The 3 week/5 day a week/4 hours a day course is an elective that students choose to take during the summer because their course load is full during the school year. All Boone County students entering high school or already in high school are eligible for this elective. According to Special Education teacher Meghan Manley who headed up this summer's PE camp, the students learn life time skills. Manley says the benefit to the summer course is that it's Student Choice. The students decide most of their activities for the day, each day based on what's required. Last week as the course was winding down we found them playing hockey, basketball, volleyball and walking/running the track. Other physical activites they've done include Tennis, Ultimate ball, Ultimate frisbee and Zumba.

Lego Mania 2 at Yealey Elementary
K-5 students came and spent time this month playing x-box Lego games, and building Lego creations in several categories. Pictured right are Natalie and Hailey Jackson and the maze they built. At 8:30 p.m. the cafeteria turned into a movie theater where students and their families watched The LEGO Movie and enjoyed popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy. Below is Principal Linda Black's family serving goodies.

Interested in being a Boone County School Volunteer?
Each school in the district has their own Volunteer Background Check form. From the main Boone County Schools webpage, go to your child's school website and click on the Parent link, then look for forms and background checks. Start here: www.boone.kyschool.us The Commonwealth of Kentucky requires all parents or volunteers, working with students and/or accompanying students on a field trip to have a Criminal Background Check completed. This background check is good for as long as your child remains in the school. |
