SUMMER EDITION
Administrator of the Year!

Longbranch Elementary Principal, Erika Bowles

Congratulations to Principal Erika Bowles as Boone County School District's newest Administrator of the Year!  Mrs. Bowles was recognized last week at KASA's (Kentucky Association of School Administrators) 46th Annual Leadership Institute and Expo as an Outstanding Education Leader.  She was presented the Spirit of a Leader Award and you can read more about Erika and the award by clicking here to view KASA'S press release.

Outstanding Educator of the Year!

Congratulations to Stephens Elementary Principal Jim Detwiler, pictured center, for being named 2014 Kentucky PTA Outstanding Educator.  The Outstanding Educator Award honors an individual for making significant contributions that enhance the education of all children. The PTA Outstanding Educator criteria consists of producing innovative programs, support and involvment of PTA programs and projects and encourgement of parent volunteers among many other responsibilities.  The Kentucky PTA found that Mr. Detwiler meets and exceeds those requirements.
AP Scholars Announced

The Boone County Schools are proud to announce AP Scholars for the 2012/2014 School Year.  The College Board's AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.  Award designation is based on the number of Advanced Placement assessments passed with a 3, 4, or 5.

  • AP Scholar: Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams
  • AP Scholar with Honor: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams
  • AP Scholar with Distinction: Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams

As shown in the charts below, BCS has increased its AP Scholars by a total of 68 over the past three years. This includes nearly doubling the number of students receiving the AP Scholar with Distinction award meaning that those students receive at least a 3.5 (out of a possible 5) on all of their AP exams. These numbers show how BCS has been consistently challenging and preparing students for the rigors of post high school academic work.

Stuff The Bus

As hard as it might be to believe there are children who start the school year at a disadvantage, they don't have the simple tools they need for class.   When you shop for your child's supplies would you consider picking up some of the same supplies for one extra child and bringing those supplies to our all day Stuff The Bus event Tuesday July 29th?  Click here for more information on Stuff The Bus.
Chick-Fil-A has promised a financial donation to the school district who brings in the most school supplies.
The competition is between Boone and Kenton County School Districts.
We Need Several Foursomes
Anyone Interested in Playing Golf?

golf_event.jpg
We are just a couple of short weeks away from the 14th annual Boone County Businessmen's Association Golf Outing.  We need your help putting together several foursomes to play Friday August 1st, 2014.  This event supports the Boone County Schools Alternative Services programs along with purchasing cold weather gear for needy children such as coats and gloves.  Click here for brochure and registration information.
 Goodridge Mural Camp
 Theme: Explorers

22 Students from Goodridge Elementary returned for Summer Mural Camp last week to paint the walls.
But as you can see this was no ordinary painting job. These students, with the help of 7 Conner High School student volunteers, painted themselves as famous explorers that they had studied. Each
child pictured is standing beside their own painting.  Muralist Specialist, Lori McQueary and Laura Mosqueda, Goodridge Family Resource Coordinator have been heading up this project for the last ten years at Goodridge Elementary.

Each child studied their choice of explorer to understand what and who they were drawing.
4th grader Megan Graber loved mural camp saying it was a great chance for students to
express themselves. Carmen Barbosa, a new student, going into 5th grade at Goodridge
was looking forward to meeting new friends at mural camp.
5th grader Emilee Heil says she most enjoyed getting messy with paints and is looking
forward to next year's mural camp.  Parents pictured below were treated to an unveiling
of their child's art work on the last day of mural camp.
