  Good behavior has it rewards!
This is Paul Van Laningham. He's in Kindergarten at Longbranch Elementary. Paul was one of several students who had the privilege of having breakfast with the superintendent because of their great behavior in the classroom during the year. Paul is one of 17 students who earned this distinction. Congratulations to all well behaved students! The Thrill of Victory at the Flying Pig Florence Elementary School Runners Club participants were all winners on Saturday, May 3rd. The thrill of victory was sweet after crossing the Swine Finish Line at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Kids Marathon. The students started preparing and tracking their miles for the marathon at the beginning of February by running, walking, or jogging one mile twice a week. The goal was to build up their endurance to run a mile. They completed 25 miles before the event and finished the final 1.2 miles surrounded by masses of runners, music, and encouraging parents cheering them on. The program was designed to incorporate many healthy aspects. The Runner's club was committed to Eat Well, Move More, and Be Healthy. The club had to fuel up to run by: rethinking their drinking (cut down on sugary drinks and increase water), increasing fruits and vegetables (to fill one half of their plate), eating whole grain products, and increasing their calcium intake. Many parents trained with their child, making the commitment to run before they started their day which reinforced it as a family effort. The Runner's Club continues to grow with students and parent involvement. This year 60 third, fourth, and fifth graders participated. The side effects of this program have been contagious. |

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Congrats to the two Conner High School Wing Design Teams for winning big at state competition Click here for a video demonstration of their aero space skills.
Conner High School's aerospace engineering students put their skills to the test in the fourth annual Wing Design Competition, held by the University Of Kentucky- College Of Engineering this month in Somerset, KY. The competition was held at the Lake Cumberland Regional Airport. This is the second year Conner High School students competed and again they came away with the First place award. In addition, they also took the second place award. The competition challenges teams of high school students to design and construct a wing for a remote-controlled airplane suitable for meeting various payload challenges. Schools within the Institute for Aerospace Education (IAE) network create teams through formal class offering. There are currently 20 schools within IAE, but schools may enter two teams into the event. The goal of the competition is to design and build a high-performance wing, while demonstrating a balance between practical and flight-worthy techniques with good flight characteristics. The competition allows students to put into practice what they have learned in class. The competition is a great hands-on opportunity to apply STEM concepts.
