ELEMENTARY NEWS Burlington Elementary's STEM lab project
Burlington Elementary students seen here using 21st Century skills: 4C's (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communiation) in
Tammy Kemper's STEM lab. Fourth and fifth grade classes are collaborating on a design for a roller coaster. Since they all can't be together at one time they communicate with other classes via notes
and video chat. Then of course there's lunch and recess. These could be the designers of the next big ride at King's Island...wait for it.
| Ellis Island Immigration Process |
Friday, April 25, all fifth grade students at Goodridge Elementary "immigrated to America." They were processed through Ellis
Island as part of a Fifth Grade lesson on immigration. Men and Women of Conner Students from Conner High School assisted with the project. The volunteers were all in period dress for the event. Students all had identification papers taken from real life records from Ellis Island manifests and either made it into America easily: were detained in the detention center; had to go to the doctor; sent to the hospital and/or deported back to their mother country. Eventually, all students made it in America. Once they made it into America they were treated to cookies made by members of Bullittsburg Baptist church and church. The program is run by the school's Family Resource Center.
