Boone County Schools High School Robotics Team successful and expanding
Last week, members of the Ryle FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) Team presented at the KY Innovate to Learn Conference in Lexington. The group demonstrated the robot the team created for a national competition last year. The robot awed the audience as it climbed to the top of a 10 foot ladder. Team members explained the process, the competition, and their use of 21st century skills. Many thanks to Emerson Automation for continuing to support the team!

Fostering Student Leadership
Students, representing each of Boone County's 23 schools, meet monthly with Dr. Randy Poe as the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. Lead by the elected Student School Board Representative, Heyra "Ada" Avila, the goals of the council are to develop 21st Century Leadership Skills collectively as a group and among the individuals and to instill these characteristics of an effective leader within all members. Raising student voice and encouraging meaningful participation in student-led initiatives through communication, planning, facilitating, cooperation/collaboration, analyzing, evaluating, critical thinking and creativity, provides leadership experience for each member in preparation for career, college, and life readiness. The School Supply Recycling Center is the first of three initiatives of the 2013-2014 Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. The plan is to have a location in each school where students, who are in need of school supplies, can retrieve them. Centers are located in every school in Boone County, elementary, middle, and high schools alike. Working with a designated staff member, each school's student representative will ensure that the Center is marketed creatively, accessible, and utilized.
