Boone County Herion Task Force holds Town Hall meetings

The Heroin Task Force is a division of the Boone County Alliance for Healthy Youth -a community coalition with the mission of building community partnerships to reduce and prevent substance abuse among youth, their families and those in future generations. The Heroin Task Force works in partnership with local businesses, government, faith-based organizations, law enforcement, volunteers, libraries and schools to raise awareness about the issues surrounding increased heroin and prescription opioid painkiller abuse throughout Boone County. Additionally, the Heroin Task Force works with its partners to provide information about an array of heroin and prescription opioid painkiller prevention strategies and treatment services.

Through a collaborative partnership with over 20 local agencies, the task force is planning four Boone County Town Hall meetings around the Heroin Epidemic in Boone County.  We encourage each of you to attend one of the October Boone County Town Hall meetings. Please click on www.HeroinTaskForce.org for dates, times & background info. This disease can happen to any of us!

October Break the Mold

Melonye Badida, Alegbra 1 teacher at Conner High School is the October 2013 BREAK THE MOLD Winner.  Melonye's dedication to the students at Conner High School is tremendous. She sponsors cougaretts and spends a huge amount of time afterschool and on weekends during the season. She also stays after with students almost every afternoon. Basically, she will do whatever needs to be done to tutor her students even when it interferes with her own personal time. Of course, she doesn't see it as interference. She also serves as council member because she wants to help make decisions for the benefit of the school, be it staff or student.
She is an Algebra 1 teacher and her collaboration with Ms. Smiley is also a model of what collaboration should be. Additionally, she will bend over backwards to help her colleagues with anything they ask of her, even if it requires her to come in at 6 am so she has time to complete her own work.
Overall, she is an amazing teacher and colleague who loves Conner High School!!
BEST Partner, Yesterday's Café and Tea Room, is the sponsor of the Break The Mold Award.
