Boone County High School teacher honored with 'hero' award

Dollar General's Every Day Heroes program recognizes ordinary people doing extraordinary deeds and this September, Dollar General, in partnership with Procter & GambleŽ (P&G), will celebrate and honor our nation's schools and teachers. Through their "Success Starts Here" national marketing campaign, including an advertorial in Better Homes & Gardens, the program recognizes Boone County High School in Florence, KY. and one of its teachers, Kimberly Shearer.

Kim is a wife and mother, as well as an English teacher at Boone County High School. Her recognition as the Kentucky Teacher of the Year in 2012 is due in part to her strong advocacy of 21st century literacy skills and strengths in teaching students how to evaluate information, collaborate, master technology and to become life-long readers.

In honor of Kimberly Shearer and educators everywhere, Dollar General is making a $10,000 donation to Boone County High School to help meet the needs of its diverse student body.

Strong Fathers of Stephens Elementary School

The Stephens Elementary Strong Fathers kicked off their year with "Dads and Doughnuts" where over 300 dads had breakfast with their kids, visited the classroom, and met as a group to plan the Strong Fathers year.  Other events planned for the school year include revitalizing the Stephens Outdoor Classroom, a benefit for Children's Hospital, and a Math Madness Family night.   Fox 19 aired two LIVE spots from the school during the event.

This is Chelsi's first solo exhibition of her work and is a result of her participation in the Kentucky Center's GSA program hosted annually for the top visual arts students in Kentucky high schools.

The work shown is an eclectic collection of pieces based on nostalgia, childhood innocence, self-awareness, and vulnerability."

This is an incredible opportunity for Chelsi. Not only will it be her first solo exhibition in an art gallery, but, her work will be available for purchase.
