2013 Governor's Scholars Announced

The Governor's Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders' concern that the state's "best and brightest" were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home. Students who are selected attend the Program without charge. In the spirit of partnership, the Office of the Governor, the Kentucky State Legislature, and private enterprise come together to provide the financial support for the Program.

The Program's mission is to enhance Kentucky's next generation of civic and economic leaders.

Congratulations to the following 2013 Governor's Scholars in Boone County Schools:

Boone County High School - Brianna Berry, Jenna Johnson, Alexandra Sestito, Colin Waters

Conner High School - Charles Bowen, Megan Graft, Andrew Mondragon, William Sanders IV

Three Boone County Schools students accepted to Gatton Academy
Each year the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky admits 60 Kentucky students who apply during their sophomore year and are awarded admission based on standardized test scores, grades, responses to essay questions, personal interviews, and recommendations.

Instead of spending their junior and senior years in traditional high schools, students enroll in the Gatton Academy and live in a uniquely dedicated Gatton Academy residence hall.

Taking courses offered by WKU, their classmates are fellow Gatton Academy students and WKU undergraduate students.

At the end of two years, Gatton Academy students will have earned sixty college credit hours in addition to completing high school.

Congratulations to Anna Braun, Allison King and Rena Ryumae from Ryle High School on being selected to attend the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky!

April Break the Mold Winner - Mrs. Brown from Mann Elementary

Mrs. Mary "Bunny" Brown, 2nd grade teacher at Mann Elementary is the April 2013 Break the Mold Winner!

With over twenty-five years of teaching experience, Mrs. Brown exhibits a true sense of what every student, parent, and administrator want in a teacher.

She is described as a teacher that will be remembered long after she has stepped out of the classroom. Mrs. Brown is that teacher that parents breathe a sigh of relief when they hear their child has been placed in her class. She is the teacher that children will remember as the one who cared and listened to them, the one who shared in their academic triumphs and struggles, and the one that went out of her way to ensure that all of her children developed a love of learning.

Congratulations Mrs. Brown and best of luck in your retirement!
