Governor's School for the Arts 

Every summer for the past twenty-five years, the KY Governor's School for the Arts and their faculty of professional artist/educators have guided over two hundred of Kentucky's finest young artists through three weeks of incredibly intense (and incredibly fun) arts instruction.  GSA auditions promising high school sophomores and juniors in nine different arts disciplines: Architecture, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, New Media, Visual Art and Vocal Music.

 

For three solid weeks, the students live, breathe, eat and sleep the arts. It's a thrilling, often life-changing experience, as they meet new friends, explore their creativity, and discover new things about who they are and who they can be in the future.

 

Graduates of the summer program are eligible for a host of scholarships and educational opportunities in all fields of study.   Congratulations to the following students from Boone County Schools who have been accepted into the 2013 Summer Program:

Boone County High School in running for Art Grant 

Boone County High School has qualified as one of the top 50 schools in the nation for the Vans Custom Culture Art Contest.

 

Custom Culture is a national high school shoe customization contest where schools from all over the United States compete for a chance to win money for their art programs. Registered schools will receive four pairs of blank Vans sneakers to be customized in four themes: Art, Music, Action Sports and Local Flavor.
 

The Top Five finalists will be flown to New York City for an exclusive final event where the winner will be selected. The grand prize winning school will receive a $50,000 prize for their art program and the chance for their shoes to be produced and sold in Vans' retail stores. The four runner up schools will also receive money for their art programs.

NKY Sports Hall of Fame 
Congratulations to Kim Borgman from Ockerman Middle School for being inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.  Kim has been at Ockerman Middle since 1985!
