The Tustin Community Foundation reminds you to
"Volunteer Today for a Better Tomorrow!"
April is National Volunteer Month, and there are many in Tustin to be acknowledged and celebrated. Tustin is a volunteer-centric community. We help our own. We have a slew of agencies serving in our community; and most of them could use a little "elbow grease" from you. No matter what your talent or gift, there is someone else nearby who needs it. It's not all about the money. Sometimes it is just showing that you care enough to be there.
To find out how you can volunteer, right in your own backyard, check out the Tustin Community Foundation website each month: www.tustincommunityfoundation.org. Under "Community News" on the left-hand toolbar, you can find out more about this community we love, find resources to help you, as well as organizations that need your help.
Everyone who attended raved about the Volunteer Speed Matching event TCF sponsored at the TustinSeniorCenter last October. Representatives from the spectrum of community services offered inthe area staffed tables; and visitors had a chance to see how their skills matched up with the agencies' needs. Another one is in the making for students along with a Club Rush this fall, an even better way to meet members of our wonderful service organizations. Stay tuned.
Talk about people who know how to be there, visit the Friends Bookstore at the Tustin Library. This book shop for everyone thrives because of dedicated Board Members and volunteers who have been keeping the shelves stocked and the doors open for decades. Stop in during National Library Week, April 14 to 20 and say hello. Buy some books. Every sale provides income that supports the collections and programs at your Library. Did you know that the library even let's you check out "e-books" for your Kindle or iPad?
And mark your calendar now for the Superheroes of Tustin volunteer recognition luncheon at Wilcox Manor on Friday, May 3, 2013. The lovely outdoor luncheon gives everyone in town a chance to meet and greet the behind-the-scenes people of our service agencies. Generous community businesses contribute to a super swag bag for each volunteer nominee; and guests get a chance to hear about volunteer accomplishments for the year. Entertainment, a fabulous guest speaker and yummy food complete the picture. If you know a Tustin Superhero, please let us know!
Remember to check out the Community Calendar and support our nonprofits by attending their events and activities! Just around the corner are the Rotary Club Lobster Fest, the Tustin Area Historical Society's Promenade Home & Garden Tour, TPSF's Teacher of the Year Dinner, the High Tea to benefit Assistance League Tustin and Tustin's famous Street Fair & Chili Cook-Off where many of our local nonprofit organizations will have fundraising booths.
Tustin ... what a great place to live, work and volunteer!

Do you have fruit trees or are you planting a garden this spring?
If so, remember The Harvest Club, a program of the OC Food Access Coalition. Last fall, the Tustin Community Foundation awarded a grant to this helpful organization to equip teams in the Tustin area to harvest surplus fresh fruits and vegetables from local backyards and divert this often wasted food into approximately 53,320 servings of fresh food to feed our neighbors in need. Contact them if you have produce to spare or want to help harvest!
