Wow---what a summer we are all having! If you're not drowning in rain, you're dying of a heat stroke or from lack of water. We're all waiting for the fire season to get started here...or fervently hoping it won't!
It's been a long time since I did a newsletter, so I hope you'll indulge me on a few of my latest artistic exploits. Life has been good, and I've felt quite inspired. For some reason, I continue to branch out with my media choices; along with doing more bronzes, I've started mosaics, using pieces of glass I cut to make a design.
I'm really enjoying the challenge of creating believable creatures out of glass slivers.
Here are a few examples...they aren't large...yet.
I'll bring them to the shows for sale; I've never seen another artist with mosaics, so hopefully it will be nice to have something original.

I'll be off to Jamestown, NY for the annual Society of Animal Artists exhibition in August; I got my painting "Ambush!" accepted into the show, and I'm busy building a crate; this is a BIG painting. I'm looking forward to going to the opening and visiting with my art friends; I'm now on the board of SAA, and will have a more active role in the group.
This spring my mother surprised me with her wish to have a large sculpture of mine installed in their front yard! How fun! After touring a local foundry and talking about ideas, we settled on a lazy cougar resting on a rock. I did my clay model, then I had her cast...she's only about 17 inches long here. Soon I'll be working on the large version, which will be my largest sculpture by far! I look forward to being challenged this way, and seeing the vision come to pass. Stay tuned, there will be another missive with photos of her in progress.
