The end of May here in Montana has been cold and drizzly. We'll be thankful later on for any moisture to curtail the fire season, but it will be nice to see the sun and warmth as summer arrives. Winter wasn't too bad here in big sky county, and I enjoyed visiting with my clients, old and new, at my annual shows in Reno.
A family trip to Maui was a lot of fun, and turned out to be artistically inspirational too, when a scuba trip and lots of snorkeling with my family led to my first sea turtle painting! We sure enjoyed watching these big turtles forage in the surf zone and lounge on the bottom.

I'm still enjoying painting with oils, and I was happy to learn that this painting of elk was chosen by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for their art program; it will be published and sold at their national fundraising events next year.
I also won an award from Alaska Ducks Unlimited, and I'll be working on more waterfowl pieces for future contests, like this painting of pintails.
And I still work on scratchboard pieces, very detailed and intense to work on, but I enjoy the unique effect the painted scratches have with the wildlife subjects I favor.
I have two shows coming up here locally, and I hope to see some of you at a show soon!
Have a terrific summer.
