UCI No. 1 top college doing the most for low income students

To measure top colleges' efforts on economic diversity, The Upshot created the College Access Index. It's based on the share of students who receive Pell grants (which typically go to families making less than $70,000); the graduation rate of those students; and the price that colleges charge both low- and middle-income students.

UC Irvine is ranked number 1 of 179 institutions.

UCI Sailing & Boating charts new waters with City of Newport Beach
In a cooperative agreement with the City of Newport Beach, UCI's Campus Recreation department will now serve as the provider of year-round boating programs at Marina Park, the City of Newport Beach's brand new boating and recreation facility.

On Saturday Dec. 5th, UCI Campus Recreation was an integral part of the planning and execution of the grand opening celebration for the facility. Marina Park is centrally based in Newport Harbor and will be the new home of UCI's boating programs. UCI's department of Campus Recreation conducts sailing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding classes, as well as overseeing the UCI Sailing team as part of the Club Sports program.

Marina Park is located between 15th & 18th on the Newport peninsula, and encompasses a 10.5 acre site which includes a community center, sailing center, caf, park and marina. With this larger facility comes the opportunity for expanded classes and hours, as well as internship and job opportunities for UCI students.

Certified members of the UCI Sailing Association will have access to boats through a boat check-out program. This partnership shines the spotlight on UCI and its storied history on local waters, while UCI gains recognition for running a world class boating program for not only the UCI community but surrounding neighbors as well. It will also allow UCI to utilize new high-performance boats and the latest in Stand Up Paddleboard and kayak gear.

Ready, Set, ZOT!: UCI Athletics Since '65

On display until Apr 1, 2016

Ready, Set, ZOT! is the 50th Anniversary exhibit by the UCI Libraries which documents the dedication to excellence, commitment to success, and perseverance in the face of adversity that built today's UCI 'Eater Nation. The exhibit will chronicle UCI sports history, and tell the story of how a young campus achieved such impressive results through rare photographs, archival documents and items from the UCI Athletics Department. Visitors will experience the inspiring victories, improbable comebacks, heart-breaking losses, conference and national championships, and the incredible school spirit that made it all possible.

Ready, Set, ZOT!: UCI Athletics Since '65 is curated by Head of Education and Outreach Catherine Palmer and Archivist for University Archives Laura Uglean Jackson. The exhibit will be on display through April 2016 in the Langson Library Muriel Ansley Reynolds Gallery during regular library hours.
