MESSAGE FROM VICE CHANCELLOR PARHAM

Fall 2013 has arrived and with it, an opportunity to welcome you to the University of California Irvine's new academic year. The new quarter and the latest chapter in UC Irvine's storied history have begun for all of us. We love the vitality and promise our students bring each fall season, and it is our fondest hope to nurture their potential in the garden of academic and co-curricular experience the campus provides. As a top tier research university, our students are admitted because they have already demonstrated an excellence in their achievements, and we take pride in all that they have accomplished to this point in their lives.

UCI BREAKS WORLD RECORD FOR LARGEST WATER-BLASTER BATTLE

UC Irvine students love a challenge. And they brought that competitive spirit to the Anteater Recreation Center fields Tuesday afternoon when 3,875 participants broke the Guinness world record for largest water-blaster fight.

Anteaters easily bested the record's previous holders, residents of Valladolid, Spain, who rallied 2,671 people in a water-pistol fight organized by the city's council in 2007.

COPING WITH TRANSITION

College is an exciting time in a student's life. At the same time, the first year can also be overwhelming: connecting with new friends, academic demands, finding one's way around campus, missing old friends and juggling life's other demands. With change comes stress, even when change is welcome and positive.

During this time, it is not uncommon for students to experience a range of emotions including depression and anxiety. The UC Irvine Counseling Center offers a wide range of services and referrals to help students regain confidence.
