The Changing Face of Transportation

Continuing our theme of distracted driving, here are some more stats from distraction.gov.

  • 10% of drivers of all ages under the age of 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crash. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted.
  • At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010.
  • Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55mph, that's enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded.
  • A quarter of teens respond to a text message once or more every time they drive. 20 percent of teens and 10 percent of parents admit that they have extended, multi-message text conversations while driving.

Please be safe out there!

Truckers Push Efficiency in Case for Longer Trailers

Drivers nationwide could find themselves sharing the roads with longer double-trailer trucks under a proposal making its way through Congress.

Large trucking companies and a national industry group are urging lawmakers to allow longer trailers, arguing that doing so would increase efficiency and move more goods with fewer trucks.

Mysterious Old Bridges

Anne is on vacation this week possibly seeking to take her own pictures of mysterious bridges.  While we can't confirm that as fact, let's roll with it.

In the mean time, how about a cool bridge in Kentucky.  Perhaps, a Natural Bridge?

According to KY State Parks, "The sandstone arch that is called Natural Bridge has stood for millenniums. The arch is 78 feet long, 65 feet high, 12 feet thick and 20 feet wide. Some geologists believe that the stunning natural sandstone arch is at least a million years old."

Go check it out this weekend.
