The Changing Face of Transportation

Hello KYSITE!

Struggling with Time Management?  I sure am and I doubt that I'm alone.  Here are some facts and figures about time management from the website balancetime.com.

-The average working person spends less than 2 minutes per day in meaningful communication with their spouse or "significant other".

-The average working person spends less than 30 seconds a day in meaningful communication with their children.

-The average person uses 13 different methods to control and manage their time.

-By taking 1 hour per day for independent study, 7 hours per week, 365 hours in a year, one can learn at the rate of a full-time student. In 3-5 years, the average person can become an expert in the topic of their choice, by spending only one hour per day.

-9 out of 10 people daydream in meetings.

-95% of the things we fear will occur, do not occur.

Don't forget to slow down and I'll try to take my own advice.

Kentucky freezes gas tax at 26 cents per gallon

Below is an excerpt from the Lexington Herald-Leader website.

State lawmakers agreed to effectively halt a scheduled 5.1 cents-per-gallon decrease in the state gas tax because it would have meant a $150 million cut to the state's road fund on top of a $129 million cut from a similar decline in January.

Kentucky's gas tax is tied to the wholesale price of fuel.  The current tax is 26.1 cents per gallon.  It had been scheduled to fall to 22.1 cents per gallon on April 1.  Instead, lawmakers agreed to drop it to 26 cents per gallon and freeze it so it would never fall below that.

State transportation officials warned the road fund would run out of money by 2016 if lawmakers did not freeze the tax.

KYSITE Spring Meeting

The spring meeting has been rescheduled for Monday April 27th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the University of Kentucky in the University Student Center, Room 230.  This allowed us to secure Li Zhang, PhD, PE, F.ASCE, F.ITE, Associate Professor at Mississippi State University to present for us on Signal Phasing and Timing (SPAT) Application Development.  This initiative is a major V2I component within US DOT's future Connected Vehicle architecture.  The price will be $15 for members and $25 for non-members and will provide 1.5 PDH's.  Attendees are encouraged to park in Structure #5 (right next to Kennedy's Bookstore).  This will be a great meeting.  Don't miss it!!!
