Tubac Together
New Village Directories
Tubac Together, the ad hoc Village improvement committee, is currently focusing its efforts on new directories which will be placed throughout Tubac. The directories will be large in scale, full color and list all businesses. One of the frames has been mounted and is available for viewing on the corner of Hesselbarth and Tubac Road (outside Sole Shoes). The directories will have "you are here" indicators to help our visitors orient themselves as they make their way around Tubac. Committee chair, Armor Todd states: "We plan to have 7-8 directories to start: 5 in the village, one at the Tubac Market, one at the Tubac Golf Resort and one at Wisdoms. More will be added in the village, at the Tumacacori Mission and perhaps at the Santa Cruz Chile & Spice Co.Three of the frames, including the one up right now, were designed and built in Nogales, Sonora. The remaining frames will be designed and built by local artist David Voisard (who is also donating one). We really hope to have the first directory up at Hesselbarth & Tubac Road by the end of March". This project has been supported by generous donations from our local businesses. Committee member and Chamber board member, Angel Fernandez, has been going door-to-door to tell folks about the project and help secure funding. If anyone would like to make a contribution, the committee is requesting $100 (or whatever you can afford). Please make checks out to the Tubac Chamber of Commerce (memo: Tubac Together) and you can drop them by the Chamber office (12B Tubac Road) or call 398 2704, and we'll pick it up. Many, many thanks to all who have already contributed and helped get the project underway.

2013 Tubac Festival of the Arts Recap
In spite of the tricky weather during the 2013 festival (or perhaps because of it!), we have had excellent reports by both Tubac merchants and festival exhibitors about their sales this year. Several of our local businesses reported record sales during the five festival days. Certainly attendance over the weekend, with the cold, wet weather (snow!) was down, but it did not seem to hinder determined shoppers.
We are always interested in how we are doing. Toward that end, we surveyed our 2013 festival artists and had the following responses:
- 56% were more than satisfied with the sales during this festival
- 74% are happy with the festival overall
- 68% were satisfied with the quality of the artwork this year
We asked artists to rate their satisfaction with the event on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the highest) and the overall average ranking was a 4 out of 5.
 | Opening reception at the Tubac Market |
As always, there is room for improvement but we seem to be doing quite a bit right! Artists were especially happy that booth sitters (volunteers who staff vendor booths for short breaks) are now being provided. This is the 2nd year we have implemented the booth sitter program and are happy to report that volunteers are returning from the previous year because it's fun! This is a great way to meet the exhibiting artists and see the festival from a different perspective. Keep it mind and contact us if you might be interested in being a festival volunteer in 2014; it's never too early to
sign up.

Paul Cisek, Tubac Market
|
Another big plus this year was the very generous opening reception hosted by Paul and Christi Cisek of the Tubac Market. The Market graciously invited all festival exhibitors as well as Chamber board and staff to enjoy beverages and an appetizer buffet. The response to this effort was extremely positive and we cannot thank Paul, Christi and the Tubac Market enough!

Bonanza Days (New !)
Inventory Reduction Event
Friday, April 26 & Saturday, April 27
The Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with local businesses, is launching "Bonanza Days" at the end of April 2013. "Bonanza Days" is an opportunity for shops to reduce their inventory before the summer starts, make some sales and draw in visitors who might not normally come to Tubac on a late April weekend.
We have had a great response to this new event and have many of our businesses signed-up to be part of this new event. Local restaurants are also participating by offering such things as pre-shopping breakfast, specials and discounts throughout the two days. Tubac's fine art galleries who may choose not to be part of an inventory reduction event are invited to join us by hosting a nonprofit in front of their space. The nonprofits will be able to sell merchandise and fund-raise.
Participation is $25 per business. All proceeds will go directly into event marketing. The Chamber will place flyers in the Green Valley News, ads in the Green Valley News, Sahuarita Sun, Santa Cruz Valley Sun and Nogales International. Flyers announcing the event will be distributed throughout the village and the surrounding area. We also encouage all participants to promote Bonanza Days in their normal advertising as well as on their social media sites. As an example, Wisdom's Cafe has already been promoting this event in their newsletter. Thanks to everyone who has signed up, been working on the Bonanza Days committee and getting the word out!
