"The state government has selected a company affiliated with Central Maine Power Co.'s parent company to build a natural gas pipeline system in the Augusta area to distribute the gas to state property throughout the region. ... In 2013, the company plans to bring the pipeline across the Kennebec River, extending along Western Avenue and Leighton Road to the state's west side properties, and continue into the north Augusta area." State Awarded $7.9 Million for Rail Project, Burlington Free Press, 6/19/12
"The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Vermont $7.9 million to upgrade the New England Central Railroad line between St. Albans and the Canadian border, the Vermont congressional delegation announced Tuesday. ... The federal funds will allow installation of 19 miles of new rail, ballast and ties, and structural and deck repairs on six bridges. As a result of these improvements, plus more than $50 million in work already done on New England Central Railroad track from St. Albans south to Massachusetts, the entire line will have a 286,000-pound carrying capacity for freight. ...The work is expected to be done this year." Freight Rail, Ports Get $104 Million in TIGER Grants, The Journal of Commerce, 6/22/12
"Port and freight rail projects received roughly one-fifth, or about $104 million, through the Department of Transportation's fourth round of TIGER grants, with public transit, passenger rail, bicycle lanes and walking trail projects getting about 40 percent of the funding. ... About 35 percent, or $175 million, will go toward the replacement of roads and bridges." Read on...
Moving Maine by Moving Goods, Bangor Daily News, 6/23/12
"The current rail network connecting Searsport to Bangor and the rest of Maine with the United States is in unexceptional condition," the researchers noted. ... Overall investment in rail and, possibly, development of an intermodal facility near arterial roadways is needed, they wrote.
