"A local construction management firm has announced that ground has been broken at Castle Commons for what will be Windham's largest medical center. ... Over the last year, E. Nickerson & Associates, LLC, has overseen the redevelopment of the location, which will house Derry Medical Center and Southern N.H. Internal Medicine Associates."

Turnpike Expansion to Create New Tradeport Entrance,

Seacoastonline.com, 6/14/12

 

"Preliminary work has begun on the portion of the Spaulding Turnpike expansion project that will result in a reconfigured highway exit to Pease International Tradeport. ... The N.H. Department of Transportation's plan calls for $54.3 million in construction on the Spaulding Turnpike in Newington from now through July 2015. Part of the plan calls for the reconfiguration of Exit 3, which the DOT said will allow full access from the north and south to both Woodbury Avenue and Arboretum Drive."

"The LePage administration is hoping the world's largest manufacturer of aircraft and trains will consider expanding its operations to Maine. ... Gervais said the administration and the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority invited Bombardier representatives to Maine to tout the state's aerospace supply chain, composites cluster, skilled workforce and assets at the former Brunswick Naval Air Base." Recovering a River, Maine Sunday Telegram, 6/10/12

 

"Demolition of the Great Works Dam on the Penobscot, starting this week, is part of an ambitious restoration project that will open 1,000 miles of waterways to Atlantic salmon. After 13 years of legal, political and engineering work, the largest-ever river restoration project in eastern North America begins Monday morning, when a 40-ton excavator aims its percussion hammer at the defunct concrete fishway of the Great Works Dam on the Penobscot River. The $62 million project, to be completed in 2014, includes removing two dams and improving fish passages at two others."Read on...

Cardinal Landfill in Farmington, NH, in Line to be Declared a Superfund Site, Fosters Daily Democrat, 6/12/12   

 

"Representatives from the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Environmental Services told the Board of Selectmen Monday they were ready to move forward in working with the town to establish the former site of Collins & Aikman facility, known as the Cardinal Landfill, as a part of the federal Superfund program. They said they hoped to begin a regulated cleanup of the site, which could take at least five to 10 years to clear fully of its contamination, beginning in April 2013." Read on...

 

New Reef From Old Shells: Conservation Group Builds Beds for Oysters in Squamscott River in Stratham, Fosters.com, 6/20/12

     

"More than 50 tons of recycled shells are being deposited into the Squamscott River this week in an effort to boost the local oyster population. The New Hampshire chapter of the nonprofit conservation group The Nature Conservancy is continuing its ongoing work to rebuild oyster reefs in the area by bulking up the natural habitat near a railroad trestle over the river." "Two University of New Hampshire graduate students are doing some research on recording earthquakes this summer.
