Healthy Habits!
It's flu season and teachers and kids are coughing and sneezing. The Marin County Office of Education sends us bulletins with information about what we should look for and what we need to know. Click here to read The Flu: A Guide for Parents.
At Oak Hill, Redwood teacher Lori Calzaretta and her students put together the following public safety messages:
 | | Remember these words if you please: Cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze. |
 | | Catch It, Trash it, Wash your hands! |
And how long are all of us supposed to wash our hands? The amount of time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" 3 times!

Teaching Empathy
Doesn't it feel good when people remember your birthday, and when they take the time to make something themselves with you in mind? Donovan Ash, our resident culinary artist, makes special treats for lucky members of the staff on their birthdays, with enough for them to share too. It looks like it makes him happy to see their faces when they are surprised. The recipient is filled with joy, and so are those who get to share the treats! Donovan made Susan a giant bowl of fruit salad last week, and this week Jessie got a Donovan-made pie.....mmmmmmm.

Autistry Studios: Creative Arts, Skill Building and Design Experience in Areas of Individual Student Interest
Oak Hill Prep students began their semester at Autistry Studios and got started on individual project design. They learned how to use the power tools and the computerized "Shop Bot." Coach Janet Lawson shared these photos on Flickr.

Friends in the Community
Community resources, making connections and accessing them: an important theme at Oak Hill. This week, Peter C. went to San Francisco with Allison and Kindrah. He visited his friend Jacky at his Clement Street restaurant, Kaka's, for lunch, and then they went to the Fire Station to see their pal Fireman Tim.
The Buckeyes took the local shuttle to the Fairfax Library where they chose books in their interest areas and took many back to school with them. They shared snack and lunch there, with their teachers and Susan.
