How We Soothe Pets and
How They Soothe Us

One of the challenges of moving pets, let's face it, is the stress. We know that it's tough to put your pups, kitties, ferrets and hamsters in the hands of others to attend to their needs, whether it's first-time travel anxiety, medications or special diets. We're pet lovers, pet owners and pet advocates - and that's why we're pet transporters. Your worries for your pet are normal, but knowing how to transport a pet - from routing to rest stops - does make the difference in delivering the best possible care when pets are on-the-go. This issue is dedicated to helping animals cope with travel (how to prepare them on the day they move, how to find relief areas when you're both in transit, and how to keep cats cool when your new destination gets blistering hot). This issue also throws the spotlight on how our pets calm us in wonderful ways, whether it's the canine brigade soothing our own travel anxiety at an airport or battle buddies, specially trained dogs paired with returning vets to help ease their trauma.

Poochie Park Atlanta Int'l Airport

Airports around the world, especially in the United States, have developed far more inviting pet relief areas in recent years. The Americans with Disabilities Act was one of the catalysts for creating pet comfort areas in U.S. airports, making travel easier for service animals and their owners, but at the same time, benefiting all pets in transit.

Cats & Signs of Heat Stress

As a pet parent, it's helpful to understand the signs of heat stress to avoid exhaustion and the potential for heat stroke in felines.

"Pets OnTrains Act" Proposed in the USA
Four members of the United States House of Representatives last month proposed legislation that would require Amtrak to allow domesticated cats and dogs on board its passenger trains.
The "Pets on Trains Act", H.R. 2066, would require that one car in each passenger train be used to accommodate passengers who wish to transport cats and dogs, as long as the animals are placed in kennels and the ticketed passenger is traveling less than 750 miles.
