Helle Thorning, Ph.D. Appointed ACT Institute Director

CPI is pleased to announce that Helle Thorning, Ph.D. has been appointed the ACT Institute Director, effective April 1.

The ACT Institute provides training, support, and consultation to Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) providers across New York State.  Our training curriculum is based on national evidence-based practice consortium standards and modifications to these standards as developed by the Office of Mental Health. Dr. Thorning comes to CPI after 6 ½ years at the Silver School of Social Work, New York University where she was clinical professor and served as Assistant Dean for Field Learning and Community Partnerships.  Previously, she was Director of Social Work at New York State Psychiatric Institute where she also was co-founder of the Center for Family Education and Resilience.  She holds faculty appointments at Columbia University and NYU.

Dr. Thorning's leadership of the ACT Institute will build on her expertise in educational and psychoeducational interventions designed to improve quality of life  outcomes for adults and families faced with trauma, mental illness, or other significant life challenges.  As ACT Institute Director, Dr. Thorning will focus on workforce development, an issue of great importance to her throughout her career.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Thorning to CPI and the ACT Institute.
