Micro-Lending as a Communal

Work of Service Kiva

Saturday, November 9, 2013

3:15 pm

Our parish constitution states, "We believe that the Word of God comes through the whole People of God."  On Saturday afternoon in the Fireside Room we will join as a community to extend loans to individuals and groups seeking micro-financing.  Please come and participate that we may hear more clearly and follow more closely the voice of God in our midst.

If you have any questions or want further information, please contact Clarence Heller
(marclar123@aol.com636.256.6515).

Canned Goods Collection

Marilyn Heller will be collecting canned goods every Saturday before and after Mass until Thanksgiving. The canned goods will be donated to Good Shepherd Food Pantry, a mid-Missouri food pantry that does not receive much support.  Please help by donating a few or MANY items.  Every little bit helps relieve a family's hunger!   Thanks for your help!

During a British conference on comparative religions, experts from around the world debated what, if any, belief was unique to the Christian faith. They began eliminating possibilities. Incarnation? Other religions had different versions of gods appearing in human form. Resurrection? Again, other religions had accounts of return from death. The debate went on for some time until C.S. Lewis wandered into the room. "What's the rumpus about?" he asked, and heard in reply that his colleagues were discussing Christianity's unique contribution among world religions. Lewis responded, "Oh, that's easy. It's grace."

After some discussion, the conferees had to agree. The notion of God's love coming to us free of charge, no strings attached, seems to go against every instinct of humanity. The Buddhist eight-fold path, the Hindu doctrine of karma, the Jewish covenant, the Muslim code of law - each of these offers a way to earn approval. Only Christianity dares to make God's love unconditional.

Philip Yancey
