Parish Council Elections

It's that exciting time of year again...time to submit nominees for the PARISH COUNCIL.

Mary Crecelius and Nancy Wamser will be rotating off of the Parish Council and we have one remaining opening to have our full 9 member Parish Council complete.

Please submit your own name (if you are a registered parishioner) or the name of a fellow registered parishioner by July 13, 2013 to be on the Parish Council. You can do this  by e-mailing Michelle Smith or completing a paper nomination at church and putting it in the Nomination Box after Mass.

SCF Hiring Administrative Assistant

We are seeking to hire an administrative assistant for 10 hours/week to maintain records, oversee the community calendar, and handle communication via email, website, social media and printed publications.  To see the full job description click here.  Please spread the word to family and friends who might be interested and qualified.  Send résumés to jessica.rowley@stsclareandfrancis.org.

Volunteer Opportunities Starring You!

Volunteer

It's not too late to join in on the fun! We have two wonderful committees looking for...YOU!!! That's right if you just didn't get around to it, thought it was too late, etc., you are in luck. The PR Committee and the Fundraising Committee are checking to see if anyone else wants in on the fun.

Beginning this year something new and exciting will be happening. The PR and Fundraising Committees will work together to plan our annual fundraising event. So it will only be half the work and twice the fun! If interested in joining the PR Committee contact Jessica Rowley. If interested in joining the Fundraising Committee contact Nancy Wamser.
Micro-Lending as a
Communal Work of Service
(we're halfway there)

Kiva

This is your opportunity to participate in micro-lending through a community.  Often only a relatively small amount of money stands in the way of Kiva borrowers and their dreams.  Whether it's a Kenyan farmer who needs $500 in order to double her grain production, or a young Bolivian woman who lacks the $1,500 tuition for nursing school, Kiva lenders provide a hand up to these and countless other borrowers.  Sometimes providing just one small loan to people in poverty can be enough to help them become profitably self-employed and financially stable.  These loans are not donations, and are almost always paid back.

We need at least eight persons interested, and so far we have five.  So if we get at least three more, then together we will finalize the model for implementing this.  A preliminary concept is that our group would meet once per quarter to jointly decide loan recipients.  We will determine the schedule for these meetings as a group.  Funds for the loans would be provided by our SCF community.

If you are likely to participate in these meetings and/or want further information, please contact Clarence Heller (marclar123@aol.com, 636.256.6515) no later than July 6.

"I think she is in an abusive relationship but she won't talk about it."

"I'm so frustrated! Why can't my friend see what a jerk her partner is!"

"I gave her the hotline number. What more can I do?"

"That's it! If she goes back to her partner this time, I'm through helping her!"

Too often, friends, and family members of domestic violence victims, as well of community professionals, are aware of the abuse but don't know what to do or say about it. The best of intentions can sometimes go horribly awry and end up inadvertently further isolating a victim.

Friends, family and professionals need the right tools to help effectively.

Woman's Place invites you to a free training to learn how to best support victims, encourage safe choices and identify "red flags" of potentially lethal escalation. Participants will learn the Ten Things to Do or Say and the Five Things to Never Do or Say to both victims and

perpetrators of intimate partner violence.
