We Tithe as a parish and we need your recommendations
We donate 10% of our collections to worthy causes. We do this as an act of faith, trusting that, in doing this, we will still be able to meet our financial needs. Please let the Parish Council know about worthy organizations that you would like us to contribute to. Information needed: your name, name of organization you are suggesting, to whom check should be made payable, where to send check and to whose attention. Please send your suggestions to Marilyn Tenholder.
Matthew 25 The Matthew 25 Fund helps members in our community who need financial assistance. All information concerning the people with whom we work is held in the strictest confidence. If you would like to contribute to this fund, make your check payable to Matthew 25, and place it in the collection basket. If you need assistance from the fund, contact Peggy Montgomery.

Fr. Dickson Cemetery Work Day
As part of our newly emerging Racial and Economic Justice campaign, we are planning our first communal service project at Fr. Dickson cemetery.
The cemetery, is situated on 13 acres at 845 Sappington Road in Crestwood. Named for the late Rev. Moses Dickson, a social activist for freed slaves, it was one of the few places in St. Louis where blacks could be buried. For more information on the cemetery, go to:

Ernest Jordan , who spoke to us last week after Mass, has been trying to protect the cemetery and the dignity of those souls resting there since 1988.
A workday and blessing of graves , followed by brunch and discussion has been planned. Please consider supporting one, two, or all three of these activities.
Saturday, June 8, 2013 (no go if it rains)
8:30 - 10:30am Communal work - mow grass, mulch, weed and trim around headstones. The cemetery provides, mowers (one riding lawn mower, 6 walk behind mowers), shovels, wheelbarrows, mulch. We can bring trimmers if desired. Dress for the weather, bring appropriate sun protection, gloves and water.
10:30 - 10:45 am Blessing of the Graves will be conducted in the shade.
11:00 am - 12:30 pm Brunch and racial justice discussion at Sappington Barn restaurant, (directly across bike trail from the cemetery).

Remote Small Group
Our community of faith emphasizes meeting God by encountering each other, heart to heart. We do that most intentionally in small groups. But many of us have difficult work and travel schedules, find ourselves unable to travel in the evenings, or are home-bound for other reasons.
If life circumstances have kept you from a small faith community, then we would like to hear from you. We are considering starting a "remote" small group that connects remotely by conference call or video chat (depending on the technology available). Please email or call Jessica 314-918-2766 if you would be interested in such a group.

Who Is My Neighbor?
I live in a lovely condo in South City. My fellow owners are mostly middle and upper middle-class folks. Within walking distance of our buildings are some of the truly poor, many of whom are like my friend, Mary. She is a healthcare worker and single mom who works hard, as many hours a week at a skilled-care facility as she can. In the few years I have known Mary, she has lost the home she owned for several years, changed jobs a number of times because of our poor transportation system, making it impossible for her to return home late in the evening, been evicted from an apartment, having to choose between buying food or keeping her heat turned on and paying rent on time.
For the last several weeks, Mary and her son have lived in a shelter. With the assistance of a local charity and the shelter, she was looking forward to moving into a decent apartment, whose rent was calculated according to the renter's income. At the last minute, Mary was informed that, because she was eligible for overtime pay at her workplace, she was also ineligible to qualify for the apartment. However, she only gets overtime when it is offered to her, which is not always a regular occurrence. She is also"ineligible" for the food-stamp program - a real "catch 22." If she were not working at all, she'd actually be better off, since she would qualify for government-sponsored housing and food assistance.
Please keep Mary and the thousands like her in your prayers. She is a woman of great faith, and we both believe a loving and compassionate God will work things our for Mary in Her own good time.

Street Soccer Tournament

The street soccer team sponsored by Peter & Paul Community Services, the St. Louis Roadies, is hosting a tournament. The 3100 block of Morganford will be closed for the evening and teams from around St. Louis and the Midwest will compete in fast-paced games of 4-on-4 soccer. You are invited to come out and enjoy an exciting style of the game. For more information on registering a team or helping to sponsor the event, see the flyer.
The St. Louis Roadies is made up of homeless clients of Peter & Paul Community Services who, working together with their coaches, develop teamwork skills, self confidence, resiliency, moral character and other personal strengths.
