Petition Available after Mass

Did you know...

In the state of Missouri, an individual can be fired, evicted, denied employment and denied housing as a result of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Missourians for Equality is a non-partisan Political Action Committee with a goal of eliminating LGBT discrimination in the state of Missouri.

Currently, they are working on collecting over 100,000 signatures, which will allow them to place a proposal on the November 2014 ballot for Missourians to vote on.

This proposal seeks to expand the definition of "discrimination" to include discrimination against both sexual orientation and gender identity without infringing on religious groups' first amendment rights.

If you would like to add your signature to this petition, you will have the opportunity after Saturday mass for the next three weeks beginning Saturday, February 9.

If you would like more info on this issue or would like to help circulate petitions contact Paul or Sue Nauert , suenauert@gmail.com or see moforequality.org

Have you heard? Missouri has to make a decision about whether to expand its Medicaid program. There are arguments on both sides: Some believe we should not expand Medicaid because we can't afford it; others believe we must expand the program or give up billions of federal dollars and the health of our fellow citizens.

Get informed on Medicaid expansion at free, open-to-the-public community forums, hosted by the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH).

Blessing for Ash Wednesday

Purple ashes

So let the ashes come
as beginning
and not as end;
the first sign
but not the final.
Let them rest upon you
as invocation and invitation,
and let them take you
the way that ashes know

to go.

May they mark you
with the memory of fire
and of the life
that came before the burning:
the life that rises and returns

and finds its way again.

See what shimmers
amid their darkness,
what endures
within their dust.
See how they draw us
toward the mystery
that will consume
but not destroy,
that will blossom
from the blazing,
that will scorch us

with its joy.
