Sunday Mass Welcoming Children
Sunday, February 10, 2013
10:00 am
Our monthly Sunday Mass experiment continues, but in February we offer additional reason to invite friends and family. A talented new member of SCF, Lauren Milburn, has offered to create a program (similar to our Children's Liturgy of the Word we once offered) for our youngest members. Lauren has experience teaching first grade PSR (public school religion) and is working on her masters in early childhood education. Your children and grandchildren will adore her. Jessica and Lauren have also worked to make the entire liturgy more welcoming and friendly to kids and families. Please join us on Sunday, February 10 at 10:00 am at the home of Janelle Carron. You can e-mail her for directions to her home if you do not have access to a directory: janellecarron@earthlink.net.

News From Our Host Church
|
From the Peace UCC Governing Body:
Dear Peace UCC Community:
As you know back in October we announced The Rev. Katherine HawkerSelf's retirement plans for this coming May. After some time and reflection, it has become apparent from the community, Governing Body, and Katy that it would be best for both Katy and the church to move our celebration up and allow us to both focus on what is unfolding now on our separate paths.
Katy will preach this Sunday January 27, and then be inactive. We will celebrate Katy's ministry on March 3rd, and release her of service as Peace UCC's Senior Pastor.
After Sunday, the Governing Body has asked The Rev. Al Schon with the assistance of Peace UCC staff to fill Katy's role and duties until we are able find appropriate interim leadership. Please contact Al or the church office directly for any pastoral matters.
Your Governing Body, People Team, and the Interim Pastoral Search Circle are hard at work to find our leadership for Peace UCC. At our February 10th congregational meeting, you will hear from Laura Evans and her circle about the process and the opportunities for Peace UCC. Also, Sarah Webster has formed a celebration circle that has begun the planning of Katy's final Sunday March 3rd.
In the coming months as we discover and embrace the future of Peace UCC as we reflect on Katy's tenure at Peace UCC, we can be confident and peaceful that her legacy has made an impact on our community in a very good way.
In Peace,
Brad Schnell

A note from Katy:
January 23, 2013
Dear Peace UCC Community,
As I type our community name I realize how very important and rich our work together has been. Katy Hawker came to Evangelical UCC many years ago, now Katherine HawkerSelf is retiring from Peace UCC and, despite the teary challenge of transitions, there is so very much for which I need to give thanks.
Grateful for an extended holiday, I had hoped that returning to Peace UCC for the spring would be good for all of us; but in taking time to listen to the spirit, sometimes we hear direction that is contrary to our expectation and even our desire. Here especially we are called to trust our still speaking God.
The leadership team, with Brad Schnell (GB President) and Therese Cristiani (People Team) have been both visionary and incredibly supportive both for the church and for this weary pastor. I am deeply grateful for their presence. The amazing staff team handled this January term with remarkable gift and grace and are ready to inspire the community as spring returns. Truly we are blessed with great leadership.
With dozens of parting thoughts swirling in my mind, I realize that my words get in the way. More than anything, this season of my life is about letting go of words and trusting that the light within each of us will guide us where we need to be in this moment and beyond. Though perhaps winding the light will, if we but follow, guide us to the place that is our home.
Thank you for sharing the journey that brought us to this place.
In peace,
Katherine HawkerSelf
