Team of Drivers for Ed
Community member Ed Bilger needs a ride to church on a regular basis. If we have a team of volunteers, we can share this task. Team members would be assigned a date to drive Ed to and from church and could switch with each other, just like we do with liturgical ministries. Ed can maneuver up and down the stairs at his house with the aid of a special cane and a railing.
Driver will need to have space in their car for and be able to handle Ed's wheel chair and cane. Ed lives in the Bevo Mill area of St. Louis. If you are willing to assist in this way, please contact Frank at fekrebs@msn.com or 314.740.1160. You'll enjoy this opportunity to get to know Ed better.

Medicaid Expansion in Missouri
Missouri has an unprecedented opportunity to improve the lives and health of its residents by adopting the Medicaid expansion of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) - now a state option after the Supreme Court's decision in June 2012. The Governor has announced that he will include funding for the Medicaid expansion in his upcoming budget request. The ACA enables states to expand Medicaid coverage to 138% of the federal poverty level ($15,415 for an individual or $26,344 for a family of three).
Implementing the Medicaid expansion in 2014 will improve access to health care and health outcomes for nearly 260,000 low-income Missourians who are currently left out of Missouri Medicaid.1 It will also have significant positive ramifications for the state's economy, while a failure to implement will have a clear adverse impact.
In Missouri, the expansion would decrease the number of uninsured by 25%. In rural areas it would be almost one-third (31%). However, the state legislature must opt in, and so far, they don't seem enthusiastic.
The federal government would fund the first three years of the expansion. Then, the federal funding would be reduced.
There is a grassroots organization pushing for this approval. I would like to encourage our parish to be aware of this issue, and get involved.
Let me know if you're interested in helping.
