Convocation: a Communal Work of Service
Saturday, January 12, 3:00 pm
Fireside Room
Discern with us how to become more than a "come and see church." We desire to also be a "go and do church." We are entering a process to listen, dream, hope, and discern how to live the gospel by engaging in communal works of service (works of compassion, justice, advocacy). We all do our part individually, but some of us feel it's time to work more collaboratively on this. Please join us for this convocation where we will discuss these questions:
What about this communal work of service might I fear?
What about this communal work of service could make me joyful?
What about this communal work of service do I most desire?
Join us! Contact Frank with questions.

Sunday Mass Experiment Continues: Second Sunday
January 13, 2013
10:00 am
Janelle Carron's home
We continue our experiment with adding a Sunday mass once a month. We are not changing the Saturday liturgy in any way. Nor do we intend to. However we have been told by some that they are not able to attend on Saturday evenings sometimes (or ever) and that they would like to have a Sunday mass option.
Mass will be celebrated on the second Sunday of each month through May, with Jessica and Frank alternating as presiders. Mass will begin at 10:00 am. Janelle Carron offers her home as a venue during this time of experimentation. Let her know you are interested in coming so she can give you her address: janellecarron@earthlink.net. A small group intends to be there each time; so you won't be the only one there! Spread the word. All are welcome!

Our Parish Tithes
Did you know that as a community Sts. Clare & Francis tithes 10% of what it brings in each year? We do! It is a valued spiritual discipline here at Sts. Clare & Francis to give back part of what we've been given. Traditionally what we have done is taken suggestions from members of the community and given $500 donations to various charities. Some of the previous recipients of this tithing money have been Loaves & Fishes, Woman's Place, Spiritus Christi (Haiti project), Down Syndrome Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Comtrea, Doorways, St. Louis Area Food Bank, Karen House, L'Arche St. Louis, SNAP (Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests), Our Lady's Inn, and Peter & Paul Community Services. Do you know of a charity or organization that is doing good in the community and could use a little extra money? We currently have around $5,000 left to give away and would like to hear your suggestions for where to donate that money. You can contact any member of Parish Council with your suggestions and we will discuss them at the January Parish Council meeting. Thank you!

Sts. Clare & Francis "Mission" Continues in Belleville
We have a mission growing in Belleville. A mission is a kind of "starter community" that is sponsored by and supported by a more stable community. This small group of persons has been celebrating the Eucharist together every other week (Saturday at 4:30 pm) at the home of Ginny and John Dahlberg. The next one is coming up on January 19th; Frank Krebs will preside.
Call 618.334.8395) or e-mail (milwginny@att.net) to indicate that you would like to come and to get directions. All are welcome! Here we grow again! Get the Word Out!

Team of Drivers for Ed
Community member Ed Bilger needs a ride to church on a regular basis. If we have a team of volunteers, we can share this task. Team members would be assigned a date to drive Ed to and from church and could switch with each other, just like we do with liturgical ministries. Ed can maneuver up and down the stairs at his house with the aid of a special cane and a railing.
Driver will need to have space in their car for and be able to handle Ed's wheel chair and cane. Ed lives in the Bevo Mill area of St. Louis. If you are willing to assist in this way, please contact Frank at fekrebs@msn.com or 314.740.1160. You'll enjoy this opportunity to get to know Ed better.

Sponsored by Friends of SCF
Catholic Action Network

All are invited to join the Catholic Action Network in celebrating a great year mobilizing our faith into action and working for peace and justice!
January 13th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at 1077 S. Newstead Avenue 63110 (Center for Survivors) the Catholic Action Network will be having an open house celebration to share what we accomplished together in 2012, and hear from you what you would like to see us work on in 2013.
Many people came together to support our religious sisters and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) this past summer, including many from the community here at Sts. Clare and Francis. With your help we collected over 1500 letters of support and had over 300 people at each vigil during the LCWR conference to pray with the sisters and show our support.
Let us say Thank You by joining CAN for an afternoon of food, drinks, and good people dedicated to making our world a better place by putting our faith into action. Any questions please contact:

random sightings
wisdom...reflection...insight...amusement
Mother Teresa diagnosed the world's ills in this way: we've just "forgotten that we belong to each other." Kinship is what happens to us when we refuse to let that happen. ...
No daylight to separate us. Only kinship. Inching ourselves closer to creating a community of kinship such that God might recognize it. Soon we imagine, with God, this circle of compassion. Then we imagine no one standing outside of that circle, moving ourselves closer to the margins so that the margins themselves will be erased. We stand there with those whose dignity has been denied. We locate ourselves with the poor and the powerless and the voiceless. At the edges, we join the easily despised and the readily left out. We stand with the demonized so that the demonizing will stop. We situate ourselves right next to the disposable so that the day will come when we stop throwing people away. The prophet Habakkuk writes, "The vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment and it will not disappoint...and if it delays, wait for it.
Kinship is what God presses us on to, always hopeful that its time has come.
