MADA Foundation Awards Two Academic Scholarships

The MADA Foundation is proud to announce that it has awarded scholarships to two very deserving students in Maryland. Each student received a two-year scholarship ($2,500 per academic year) to be applied towards their continued education in the automotive industry.

Our first recipient, Craig Thomas, is a recent graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, MD and will attend the Community College of Baltimore County starting this Fall. He was recently accepted to CCBC to receive an Associates Degree of Applied Science specific to the Ford division. Upon completion of his program, Craig will be a certified automotive technician with plans to work in the MD automotive industry. Craig is sponsored by The Frederick Motor Co. in Frederick, MD.

Our second recipient, Gustavo Sanchez, is a recent graduate of Laurel High School in Laurel, MD. Gustavo will attend Montgomery Community College starting this Fall with a major in automotive technology. His ultimate goal is to pursue a mechanical engineering degree while supporting himself financially by working in the automotive repair field. Gustavo hopes to use his mechanical engineering degree in automotive design with the goal of creating more efficient cars in the future. He is sponsored by Academy Ford in Laurel, MD.

We wish to congratulate our two recipients; they represent the best and the brightest in Maryland and we have high hopes for both Craig and Gustavo!

Space Still Available for Spring Title & Registration Seminars
The Maryland Automobile Dealers Association, along with managers from the Motor Vehicle Administration, will present a seminar that offers the opportunity to learn new procedures and review old procedures.

Due to the constant changes of regulations governing the sale of a vehicle, MADA strongly encourages individuals from the F&I, Sales, Business Management, and Title & Registration Departments to attend this seminar.

We will also address any changes as a result of the 2015 Legislative Session.  This is a great opportunity to network with your ERT representatives as well as your MVA representatives.

Space is limited so register as soon as possible!!

NADA Workforce Study Deadline Extended to June 30th
In response to dealer requests, NADA has extended the deadline to participate in the 2015 Dealership Workforce Study by one month to June 30.

The purpose of the study is to help dealers address their biggest challenge- attracting and keeping the best employees. This is the only comprehensive and authoritative study of the retail auto and truck workforce. MADA strongly encourages all dealers to participate. The more Maryland dealers who participate, the more valid the data!

All participants will receive complimentary comparative statistics for their own dealerships.

NADA to Phase Out NADART Retirement Program
NADA has provided dealer members with retirement solutions through its NADART Program for more than 50 years. NADA recently contacted all current NADART participants to notify them that the NADA Board decided to introduce a new, more cost-effective retirement program through Empower Retirement and will phase out the existing NADART Plan in October 2015.

If your dealership currently offers a retirement plan through NADART, you must notify NADART whether or not you intend to continue with the new plan from Empower Retirement no later than August 26, 2015. This will allow sufficient time to transfer your existing plan.

If you choose to move your plan to a provider other than Empower, the transfer must be completed by October 9, 2015. If you sign up with Empower, the transfer will begin on October 10, 2015.

If you have questions about this change, contact the NADART Plan Information Center at 800.462.3278 or email nadart@nada.org.
