Happy Birthday to Us!!!
The Community Foundation celebrates our 3rd birthday today, August 9th.
Today, we want to celebrate three years of service to our community. At the Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County, we help people with giving hearts find simple, tax-advantaged ways to give.
We thank our wide range of donors who reflect the mission of the Community Foundation, serving as champions for improving our community through philanthropy that is ambitious, diverse, and inclusive.
The Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County has quickly become part of the fabric of our community. In the three years since its inception, donors have set up charitable funds totaling over $6.4 million. Donors have allowed us to work with their families and professional advisors to design gift plans that fit their vision and donor preference.
On their behalf, the foundation has given over $1.2 million to various nonprofit organizations, schools, hospitals, and churches.
In addition, 14 nonprofit organizations have entrusted us with more than $1.6 million they have set aside for a rainy day. We thank the nonprofits for their partnership and trust. We congratulate them for working with us as they strive to secure their long-term viability.
A strong community benefits the individual, the community, and the greater society. Our donors and nonprofits are doing their part to make a difference.

Dryden, Bound & Associates Establishes Corporate Giving Fund
Dryden, Bound & Associates has established the Community Foundation's first Corporate Giving Fund. Also known as a Company Donor Advised Fund, a Corporate Giving Fund provides a charitable vehicle for a company and its employees.
The fund is named by the company and established with an initial contribution. Employees may contribute throughout the year. Designated individuals or a committee identify the charities that will be supported with grants from the fund. The Community Foundation issues grants to the selected charities. The grants can be sent to any 501(c)(3) organization, church, or government in the nation and may be made in the name of the fund or anonymously. The Community Foundation handles all administrative details including the preparation of tax acknowledgements for employees or others who contribute to the fund.
According to Jay Dryden, Senior Partner, "Dryden, Bound & Associates is dedicated to giving back to the community. We actively support local and national charities. It is important that as we talk with clients about how they can include charitable giving in their estate planning, we demonstrate that our company recognizes the importance and the joy of giving."
James Gilbert, Chairman of the Board of the Community Foundation, added, "The Community Foundation is excited to introduce our first Corporate Giving Fund. This is a low cost alternative for companies wanting to support charitable causes. It can be established quickly. The Foundation handles investments, accounting, and tax returns and the staff is available to verify potential recipients, provide information, and send the grants. We are so happy to start this initiative with the caring folks from Dryden, Bound & Associates."

Scholarship Funds | | |
The Community Foundation can assist you in establishing a scholarship fund.
TAILORED SOLUTIONS FOR STUDENT SUPPORT
We have the expertise to help you set up a scholarship for a customized purpose - such as helping a student from a specific geographic area pursuing a designated field of study at a certain type of institution. We work with a wide range of K-12 schools, colleges and universities to ensure that the purpose of your scholarship is fulfilled.
The Foundation awards scholarships to nonprofit educational institutions for the benefit of students selected on an objective, non-discriminatory basis. A specific school or nonprofit named by the donor recommends scholarship recipient(s) each year according to established criteria and guidelines, and the Foundation sends the scholarship grant directly to the institution the student(s) will attend.
There is a $50,000 minimum to establish a scholarship fund, and the annual administrative fee is 1.25%.
If you are interested in learning more about our scholarship funds or if you would be interested in establishing a fund, please contact Lynne Berry at 256.535.2065 or at commfoundhmc@gmail.com. |

Community Foundation Celebrates Milestone
The Community Foundation recently celebrated a significant milestone in our brief history. On behalf of donors who advise us where to send their gifts, the Community Foundation has now distributed over $1,200,000 to churches and nonprofits.
The Community Foundation currently has no discretionary money that we can direct to nonprofit organizations, but we continue to work with donors to satisfy their charitable giving priorities. As we continue to grow, we look forward to the day when we can direct funds to meet additional critical community needs. |

Teaching People How to Give Effectively
In 2011, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Foundation set up a fund at the Community Foundation to maintain its extensive collection of space artifacts, rockets, and exhibits.
Recently, the Space & Rocket Center hosted an event for some of its donors. They approached the Community Foundation about creating a marketing piece that they could provide to their donors, and we were able to assist them in putting together a co-branded piece that they could distribute at their event.
Because of their relationship with the Community Foundation, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Foundation was able to teach their donors how to give more effectively. Their donors will be able to use that information to further support the mission of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Foundation. This is yet another benefit that we are able to provide to nonprofit organizations who choose to place their investment funds through the Community Foundation.
If you would like more information about how your nonprofit organization can invest in the Community Foundation, please contact Melissa Thompson at 256.535.2065 or at commfoundhmc2@gmail.com. |
