Welcome to our E-Newsletter!
Welcome to the first edition of our e-newsletter. You can adjust your subscription at any time via the links at the bottom of this email. Our goal is provide you with relevant information about our community through this quarterly email. If you wish to contact us with questions or comments, you can reach us at info@communityfoundationhsv.org or call at (256) 489-2281.
Our Community Foundation has been in operation for a year. We are celebrating a year of great generosity. We have been welcomed by donors and non-profits and professional advisors. We have setup a variety of funds and we have been named in estate planning documents.
There are so many people we need to thank. In this issue, I want to highlight those individuals listed at left. Jennie Robinson and I got on the road right away and visited these Community Foundations. Their directors were unfailingly hospitable and incredibly helpful. They shared information, documentation, experiences, and, most importantly, their passion for their work. Nothing we have done has helped us as much. We continue to call on them quite often. We hope to make it to the other five community foundations in Alabama in the near future.
Our greatest challenge is education - educating the community about their Community Foundation. We need to educate donors about the tax benefits of giving and the avenues available to them through the foundation. We need to educate the non-profits about the services of the foundation. We need to educate professional advisors about our services. If you are a potential donor, a memb er of a non-profit board, or a professional advisor and have not heard from us, please contact us. We would be grateful for the opportunity to come and tell you about the Community Foundation.

Jane Knight Lowe Grant
|
| The Community Foundation received a 2010 Jane Knight Lowe grant in the amount of $18,366. Chris Russell, Board Chairman, commented, "It is quite an endorsement of the Community Foundation for the trustees of the Jane Knight Lowe Charitable Trust to award us these funds. We received notification just as we were celebrating one year in operation. Many thanks, posthumously, to Jane Knight Lowe for her foresight in setting up this charitable trust. This investment in the community foundation will help us educate others who may be interested in leaving a similar legacy to this community."

$10,000 Grant from the Wachovia/Wells Fargo Foundation in Support of CharityTracker
|
| We recently received a grant from The Wachovia/Wells Fargo Foundation supporting our work with CharityTracker. CharityTracker is an easy way for organizations to collaborate and communicate, reduce duplication, and focus their resources on people with real needs. It has been used in over 200 communities across the nation and connects all food banks in Texas, social service agencies throughout South Carolina, and churches and agencies in Shelby County, Calhoun County, and Marshall County in Alabama. This tool is for anyone who is in the business of helping people - non-profit organizations, local churches, charities, and government agencies who want to join together to help those in need. The Community Foundation looks forward to serving as the local administrator for CharityTracker and bringing together social service agencies and churches to form a collaborative network to better meet client needs.
The Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County and Leadership Huntsville/Madison County recently co-sponsored a Community Collaboration Training to promote CharityTracker as a linking tool to create a more collaborative network. Agency and church leaders from across Madison County joined together to examine our community's response to human needs and our power of working together. The session was facilitated by Chuck Coward, Executive Director of Charleston Outreach and the Human Needs Network. First Baptist Church was our host for the full day training attended by approximately 40 participants.

Message from Our Board Chair
|
| Do you, or does someone you know, have a track record or interest in charitable giving? We would encourage you to have a conversation with Community Foundation Executive Director Lynne Berry.
There may be different ways to make your donations. This includes gifts to your church and current favorite charity. We'll help you look for the most tax-advantaged way to get it done.
On the news front, we're excited to have our office in a great new location. We're now located at 659 Gallatin Street. We share the first floor with Leadership Huntsville/Madison County and couldn't be more proud to have such excellent neighbors.
And do you volunteer with an area non-profit? We're actively looking to serve non-profits in managing their investment funds. Our goal is to help streamline the sometimes extremely demanding task of managing their endowment funds. We can also reduce their investment management fees and build bridges to potential new donors. Let us know who we might help.
Chris Russell, Board Chair
