Your Action is Needed
Communication Law Needs Reforming

In a few weeks, the state's communication law expires and there is much at stake for us, our families and our economy.

State lawmakers and Gov. Rauner will decide if Illinois updates its communications law for today's job creating, modern technologies or if it keeps its old rotary-dial era law that holds Illinois back. Illinois REALTORS can support needed updates by sending an
e-mail to their legislators. Click here to find out why your support is needed.

TRID Changes
a.k.a Closing Changes

Although NAR is requesting a grace period from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in regards to the Truth and Lending/RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) requirements set to begin August 1st, it is recommended that all real estate agents get on board with the implementation.  The CFPB is holding a webinar  on May 26th to help answer any questions. There is also a video  now available that discusses the new disclosure forms created by the CFPB.

Crosby Receives 2015
NAR Distinguished Service Award

Jean Crosby, CRB, CRS, GRI was one of two recipients that was awarded the 2015 National Association of REALTORS Distinguished Service Award in Washington, D.C. last week at the Legislative Meetings & Expo. Crosby has served on the board of the Illinois Association of REALTORS, the Rockford Area REALTORS and has served on the NAR Finance Committee. "Jean's commitment to upholding high standards for the real estate industry make her an ideal choice for this award, "said IAR President Jim Kinney.
The Power of R!

Illinois REALTORS were two for two after two controversial bills were both stopped recently in the Illinois General Assembly. SB1380, which allowed liens on non-offending properties, and HB1376 that mandated video sewer inspections were both halted. However, the Senate sponsor of SB1380 opted to extend the deadline leaving the door open to another vote on the issue before the end of this spring session. IAR and RAR extends a huge thank you to the thousands of REALTORS who participated in the IAR Calls for Action.

ALERT: Wire Fraudsters Targeting
Real Estate Transactions

In recent months, real estate professionals have reported an upswing in a particularly insidious wire scam. A hacker will break into a licensee's email account to obtain information about upcoming real estate transactions.  After monitoring the account to determine the likely timing of a closing, the hacker will send an email to the buyer, posing either as the title company representative or as the licensee. The fraudulent email will contain new wiring instructions or routing information, and will request that the buyer send transaction-related funds accordingly. Read more about this scam and how to take precautions to avoid being scammed.

The NAR Safety Program has been expanded to include more resources for its members.  Find out more.
