RAR Involvement Supports Career Academies

Jefferson High School implemented a new program called Freshman Academy this past school year as part of the Alignment Rockford initiative. As a result of this Career Academies movement Jefferson slashed their failing rates from 47 to 8 from 2011 to 2012. The Rockford Area REALTORS supported this initiative with their financial and management involvement in the Rockford Area Economic Development Council and Alignment Rockford. Freshman Academies will open at Auburn, East, and Guildford in August. As the next step in the initiative of Alignment Rockford Jefferson will begin a College and Career Academies this fall for its upperclassmen. The goal will be to provide students with guidance on career interests. The success of our students means the success of our community.

New Highway Advertising Control Act

Governor Quinn has signed into law HB 2764, a measure strongly supported by IAR. The original legislation, Act 98-56, as presented
dealt with recent overreaching action by the Illinois Department of Transportation to require state permits and fees for real estate signs advertising the sale or lease of property or "on premise" business signs near interstate highways, as is required for billboards. The new law included amended verbiage that insures that REALTORS will not be subject to new fees and state regulation.
