Ormondale's Used Book Fair

Mon Mar 16 through Fri Mar 20

Save Your Used Books, DVD's, CD's, and Video Games

Written by the Third Grade Students in Ms. Woolfe's Class

Do you want to help the environment? Here is your chance to reduce, reuse, and recycle all at one time! Join with the third grade classes as they put on a Used Book Fair.  We would like you to donate gently used adult and children's books as well as DVD's, CD's, and computer games.  The money that we earn will go to the Ormondale library and the charity, Room to Read. The last time we had a Used Book Fair our school earned enough money to build a library in Nepal!

From Mon Feb 9 to Wed Mar 18 third graders will collect books, CD's, DVD's and computer games in the morning drop off line. There will be bins outside of the office as well. Book, CD, DVD, and computer game drop off continues right up to the date of the fair in Ormondale's office and Corte Madera's library. Thank you for supporting literacy and the environment all at one time!goldensneaker

Bike/Walk to School Day

Wow, what a wonderful turnout for the Bike/Walk to school day at Ormondale last week! Despite the drizzly, wet, overcast weather we had several ambitious students who enthusiastically walked, biked and ran to school.  We even had a hopper!  Yes, a hopper, crutches and all! Way to go Ormondale!

Now, lets keep the momentum up as we have The Golden Sneaker coming up Wed Mar 18 - Fri Mar 27. The classroom with the most participants of walk and rollers will win the Golden Sneaker Trophy and a treat for the entire classroom.  As we were handing out rewards during the bike/walk to school day, students eagerly shared suggestions on what future rewards should be- everything from fruit snacks to turtles.  While we can assure you that your child will not return home with a turtle, students will be receiving various thank you rewards on a few of the days during Golden Sneaker week!  Reward days will be a surprise!

Anyone who would like to help hand rewards can contact Christy.

CMS Bike/Walk to School Day

CMS students rocked the first Bike/Walk to school day of 2015!  Numerous, energetic students biked, walked and skateboarded to school last week, encouraging less cars and more exercise! The grade level with the most participants for the second semester will enjoy an exciting reward at the end of the year.  Eighth grade students worked hard and won the treat for the first semester. Way to go 8th graders!

Thank you to Kristen Shima, Brigetta Brown, Juliet Green and the CMS Student Council for arriving early, handing out morning snacks and taking counts!

Summer Game Programming Camps in Portola Valley

Programming Java with Minecraft - Level 1 - Mon, Jun 22 - Fri, Jun 26
Programming Java with Minecraft - Level 2 - Mon, Jun 29 - Fri, Jul 3
Programming iOS Apps with Swift - Level 1 - Mon, Jul 6   - Fri, Jul 10

Now in their fourth season, these camps are a great way for kids (grades 5-10) to learn programming fundamentals and get up and running with some fun projects they can continue at home.  All camps are run by Jack Youstra, a CMS graduate and Woodside Priory sophomore and all-around computer nerd.

Programming Java with Minecraft - Perfect for kids who love Minecraft and video games. We use real programming with a real programming language - Java - on a real world server that your child will setup and configure. Level 1 offers an introduction to all aspects of programming; In Level 2, kids explore the more advanced object-oriented nature of Java and tackle more complex (and fun) plug-ins.

Programming iOS Apps with Swift - Apple's new Swift programming language has greatly simplified iPhone and iPad development. Your child will learn everything necessary to build and customize their first app.

Each camp will include:
- Setting up a programming environment on your laptop
- Using Xcode or Eclipse to create programs
- Programming & language basics
- Fun projects - a Minecraft mod or an iOS app
- Outdoor recreational time. Minecraft campers also enjoy some gaming at the end of the day

Camps are $550 each. PVSD students who register before 4/15 and use the promo code PVSD501 receive a $50 discount.
