Info on Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
Greetings Parents,

California will be implementing a new funding formula, The Local Control Funding Formula, to deliver state dollars to all school districts. With the implementation of a new funding model for schools, California now requires each district to submit a plan for use of the funds and how it will serve the state priorities. The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is required by all California school districts to communicate how the goals and strategies and expenditures of state funds are meeting the needs of students.

As part of our process, we are gathering input from stakeholders on PVSD's LCAP. Please find our LCAP and form to receive your input electronically here.

Please contact Jon Barth, Chief Business Official, or John Dean, Director of Learning and Media, if you have any questions.

The Farmers Market is Here!
It's finally here again!  Come to a Farmer's Market this Friday, May 30th from 4-6 pm. The Ormondale second graders have made and grown several items that will be for sale, such as bird houses, garden hats, stationery, and pinwheels. In celebration of their efforts, and as a way to raise money to continue nurturing the school garden, they are hosting a Farmer's Market where items and produce will be for sale.

Additionally, there will be Food Trucks (Chicken and Waffles, Kona Ice, Lobster Shack, and Angel Heart Bakery), musicians (Panache and Shane Turner), and tile making. Please bring your shopping bag and blanket to Ormondale this Friday between 4 and 6 pm to enjoy this wonderful event. Show your support for our second graders' hard work and help their "Pumpkin Garden" grow!

ORM Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Congratulations to the entire school community on a fabulous school play. Flat Stanley was a huge hit with all 284 students participating in our school wide play. Flat Stanley  is an amazing example of parents, community members, staff and students collaborating on a project that directly impacts the entire community. Thank you to the Portola Valley School Foundation who funded this wonderful program. A BIG THANK YOU to all of the parents and community volunteers who made this event such a huge success. A special THANK YOU to the main directors, Karyn Bechtel, Carlon White, and Naomi Kinsman Downing. And finally, THANK YOU to all of the students who worked so hard to put on a fabulous production!

Have you had a chance to walk the halls of Ormondale? They are decorated with student masterpieces inspired by Jackson Pollock, van Gogh, African Tribal Art, French Tapestry, Grant Wood, Paul Klee, Ghirlandaio, Edgar Dega, Picasso, and our amazing Art in Action Team. Thank you to Kim Zamboldi and the Art in Action team who have worked the entire year to teach art lessons to the entire school and then worked overtime to decorate the halls with the student masterpieces. Take some time to walk the halls and check out all of the great work.

There are a number of great community events coming in the next few weeks.  Mark your calendars now and join us!

CMS Principal's Message

With Memorial Day weekend in the rear view mirror, it is truly amazing to me that the end of the school year is rapidly arriving. I am very proud of our students and staff and all we have accomplished this year in partnership with our parent community. We have made great progress on initiatives within our strategic plan including common core instruction, Social/Emotional Learning and Project-Based Learning. As well, we will be ready in August to implement our new master schedule for the 2014/15 school year!

The end of the school year brings engaging and excited classroom projects and activities, stellar performing arts shows and concerts, and, of course, 8th grade graduation. I hope the entire CMS community enjoys the celebratory nature of this time of year and takes time to reflect on how fortunate we are to work together as a community for the benefit of our students. Below is a reminder of important events and dates that are coming up very soon:

  • May 27 / 8:00 - 9:00AM / Rm 102: Incoming 6th Grade Parent Orientation
  • May 27 / 2:00 - 3:00PM / Rm 102: Incoming 4th Grade Parent Orientation
  • May 29 / 6:00 - 7:30PM / MUR: Spring Concert and Art Show
  • June 1- 6: 8th Graders to Washington, DC
  • Week of June 9: 8th Grade Activities Week
  • June 13 / 5:00 - 6:00PM / MUR: 8th Grade Graduation

M-A Families Volunteering Opportunity
Get familiar with M-A by volunteering with the Admin Support Committee - Is your 8th grader attending Menlo-Atherton High School next year? If so, please sign up to be on the administrative support volunteer list. There are no specific obligations. When the M-A Administration needs parent volunteers, we send out an email. If the volunteer opportunity fits in your schedule, you sign up; otherwise no need to respond.

A sampling of events that use lots of parent volunteers are Arena Check-In, textbook distribution, schedule distribution, AP sign-ups, and AP test proctoring.
