Second Annual Walk to Washington DC Walk-A-Thon
| |
Mark your calendars! CMS will host the 2nd Annual Walk to Washington DC Walk-A-Thon on Friday, April 25th. This after-school event is the major fundraiser for the Washington DC Trip, and all funds raised will not only benefit this year's 8th grade class, but will also raise funds for the 4th - 7th grade DC trips in the future. The 8th grade class is headed to Washington DC in June for an amazing experience that will bring their US History and Government curriculum to life as young citizens of the United States.
The event will kick-off on Friday, April 25th with a lunch time BBQ for all CMS students, sponsored by the PVSD PTO, and then Opening Ceremonies for the Walk-A-Thon begin at 3:10 for what is sure to be an exciting and fun afternoon. A raffle will be held at the end of the event. All students that turn in their sponsorship forms will be in the drawing to win raffle prizes.
Walk-A-Thon Sponsorship forms will go out to all students this week. Please have your student return the completed form along with donations (checks only please - no cash) by Tuesday, April 22nd at 3pm.
Thanks for supporting our PV Schools!

Sports Nutrition Seminar
|
Sports Nutrition Seminar: Optimal Fueling for Optimal Performance Yael Dror M.Sc. Sports has become a huge part of our lifestyle and culture and youth sports has grown immensely over the last 15 years. Unfortunately, many athletes, from the middle school soccer player to the professional triathlete, don't know how to fuel their body correctly before, during or after their given sport or training regimen. Sports nutrition is a separate field in the world of general nutrition which focuses on recommendations and guidelines for sport activity. The aim is improved physical performance by eating correctly. Sports nutrition answers the question: "What and when should I eat relative to type, time and duration of activity in order to maximize physical abilities and performance?" Many studies over the years have shown that in order to improve your physical ability and improve in sports, the training program alone is not enough! Some experts even say that nutrition has about 70% of the effect on the body, post-exercise. This lecture will focus on 4 important stages in Sports Nutrition: 1) Pre-exercise: How to eat before training? What type of carbohydrate is recommended? How to eat before a morning workout? 2) During exercise: What types of exercise is it important to eat during the training? How often? What kind food? What about fluids while training? 3) Post-exercise: Immediate recovery, what is the right timing for eating after a workout? What's important to eat? Protein? Carbohydrates? 4) Slow recovery phase after exercise: How to eat during the day to allow a good recovery from the training. What are the special guidelines after long endurance training? Come join Yael Dror M.Sc, to understand and learn the world of Sports Nutrition and how it can benefit you!!! When: Saturday April 26th, 1-2pm Where: PTX Fit, 108 Portola Rd. Cost:$10 Contact: 650.851.2338

Got Books? |
Thanks to the generous PVSD school community and the PV community, we have collected books, shipped, and set up 18 children's libraries in Lesotho, Botswana, Ghana, and Swaziland as part of African Library Project.
We are now collecting more books for libraries in Malawi and Sierra Leone.
If your have gently used children's books in English, K through 8th grade, we would love to get them and make sure they end up in a children's library in Africa. We are happy to pick up, or you can always drop off at 405 Cervantes Road.
We truly appreciate your help. Thank you!
