AHS STUDENT BULLETIN

The PFC provides this weekly Student Bulletin as a service to our school community, but we do not generate the contents. All questions regarding the announcements below should be directed to Janice Cohen, the Activity and Athletic Secretary. She can be reached via email or by phone at 818-889-1262 ext. 231.

ACADEMICS
Attention All Students!
Please plan to join in the lunchtime meetings in A-1 this week to see if the field of public works might be in your future. Hear from real, local professionals - engineers and scientists - to learn about practical applications in the field.

AP Exams:
If you are registered to take an AP Exam, please make sure you check the website for AP Exam information and AP Room Locations.

Calculus AB Meeting:
There is a mandatory meeting for all prospective Calculus AB students on Monday, May 23rd at lunch in room V201. Please see Mrs. Bacharach in room V201 if you have any questions.

Please join your counselors in the PAEC on May 24th during Support for important information as you prepare for next year's schedule, applying to college, college admission testing, the Senior Brag Sheet, and more.  ALL JUNIORS CONSIDERING APPLYING TO COLLEGE SHOULD ATTEND THIS MEETING.  Most college applications will be open and available by August 1, before AHS is back in session.  Get a head start and learn what you can accomplish early to relieve some of the stress of this busy time.  Hear from students who have been through the process. Counselors and students will be available after the presentation for questions. Please be on time so you receive answers to all your questions. 

Message from Media Center: 
Students, if you are finished with your AP study Guide books, please consider donating them to our Media Center.

FOR 9TH & 10TH Grade Students:  
Computers will need to be returned starting the week of May 16th for 10th graders and right after RenStar testing for 9th graders.
Students must return their computers during Support, Nutrition, and Lunch and after school. There are FOUR different components that MUST be returned.
 
o    COMPUTER ($325 to replace)
o    CHARGER ($25 to replace)
o    CASE ($23 to replace)
o    STRAP ($5 to replace)
o    Computer cases should be FREE of pet hair   and/or debris.
o    If you need to replace an item please bring in a CHECK or you can pay via PAYPAL through the Media Center or the LVUSD website.

Knowledge Counts: The College Essay:
As part of this year's summer school offerings, Knowledge Counts will be offering a new college essay workshop. The workshops will be held at Calabasas High School.


WORKSHOP I: The Big Picture 
Friday, June 24, 9 a.m. - 12 noon
 
* The role the essay plays in the admission decision
* Prompts for the Common Application and the UC application
* Some essays work, some essays don't
* Essay resources
* Q&A

WORKSHOP II: Just Do It

Saturday, July 9
, 9 a.m. - 12 noon
* The prompts
* General discussion of topics
* Break into small groups to work individually with a consultant on Common Application prompt. This will include peer review.
* Q&A
Assignment: Write your first draft of the Common Application prompt.


WORKSHOP III: One-On-One
 Friday, July 15, 9 a.m. - 12 noon 
* Q&A
* Students work individually on their essay
* Consultants work 1-on-1 with each student, reviewing their essay and giving feedback
Assignment: Complete essay


Registration Fee: $225

Students must attend all three workshops. There are no summer school classes on the workshop days. The workshops are run by the partners from Headed for College, two of whom are former college admissions officers.

Students do not need to be enrolled in Summer School to attend the workshops.

ACTIVITIES
Make Dinner a Selfless Act While Supporting the AHS Music Department!
Come in to the Chipotle in Westlake Village TODAY, May 10th between 4:00 and 8:00pm. Bring in the attached flier and show it on your Smartphone, or tell the cashier you're supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to AHS Music Department. 
 
Power Plant BBQ:
Today is the last Power Plant BBQ of the year! Come to the softball game after school today to earn 10 spirit points and get some free food. Burgers, chips, and drinks are free with a Power Plant T-shirt or $3 without a T-shirt. See you on the softball diamond!

Girls, guys, coaches - we need you! Registration packets are due TODAY in room K-4.

Are you interested in designing our senior apparel or have an idea for a senior slogan? Come to room K-4 and pick up a form!

ATHLETICS
AHS Athletic Physicals and Clearance Days:   Agoura High School Athletic Physicals/Clearances for the 2016-17 school year will be held at Exer Urgent Care in Calabasas on Saturday, May 21 and Saturday, June 4. The cost is $50 per exam and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Agoura High School Athletic Department.  Please see the attached flier for detailed information. 

SENIORS
Graduation Announcements: 
If you ordered announcements, you may pick them up in the AAC.

Hey Seniors! It's commitment season!
Don't forget to pick up your college banner and diploma frame order form in room K-4. Forms and checks are due by May 13th.    

Senior Survey: You must complete the Senior Survey by Friday, May 13th.  Look in Naviance under "About Me" to find the survey.  Please read all questions carefully.  If this survey is not completed, you will not receive any FREE tickets to graduation. Those who complete the survey will receive four free tickets to graduation. Also, please make sure you've completed the entire "Colleges I'm Applying To" section in Naviance by Friday, May 13th

GRAD NITE Ticket Sales are Still Available:
Don't get left off the bus! Check the GRAD NITE board on the wall outside of the AAC to see if you have signed up. Registration forms are still available for GRAD NITE. Grab one right outside of the AAC or on the school website under Activities:GradNite. The cost is $200 and the last deadline is May 27th!   If you have any questions, please email ahsgradnite2016@gmail.com

Senior Transcripts:
You will need to order your official final transcript for your college as well as one for NCAA if you are a Division I or II athlete. Final transcripts can be ordered in the Counseling Office by June 3rd. The cost is $5 each and must be paid for at the time of your request by check (made out to AHS) or by using PayPal. Payment is required at the time you place your order. Edoc Transcripts will be sent electronically the week of June 13th via Naviance. Paper Transcripts will be ready for pick up beginning June 20th - please remember to bring a photo ID. No transcripts will be given without one a photo ID. All transcripts must be picked up by June 29th.

A Little Inspiration
Regardless of what came before or of what has yet to come, what matters most right now is how I choose to respond to the challenge before me. Will I lie down or will I fight? The choice is mine and I choose to finish strong.
