We have had an exciting week at Avondale with many visitors and accomplishments.  Please see the photos and captions at left.  We are so proud of our students!

Avondale has once again been named a High Performing School of Honor and a School of Promise based on the 2014 Ohio School Report Card.  We have been recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for achievement over the last five years and for closing achievement gaps among all students.  Congratulations Avondale students and staff!

Grade 3 Veteran's Day Music Performance
The annual program that honors veterans will be held on Nov. 7th.  Parents and family members of third graders, as well as active military and veterans, are invited to attend the 2:30pm show.

PTO Family Movie Night
Mark your calendars for Friday, Nov. 14th at 7pm to enjoy a family movie at Avondale.  Our PTO is sponsoring a movie night with refreshments and fun for the whole family.  We expect to end around 9pm.

Student Recognition
We would like to recognize students' achievements, both within our district and within the community.  Please send us information about any of your students' achievements. They may be recognized at Morning Welcome and in building newsletters.  Thank you.

Congratulations to our 3rd and 4th graders who received Academic and Character Awards during our Nov. 3rd Morning Welcome.  Way to go!

Phys Ed News
Please read the message below from Mr. Hamilton:

In the month of November we will be having a Family Fitness Challenge. Each student will go home with an exercise calendar at the beginning of the month. For each day of the month there is an exercise challenge that the students can complete. If they are able to complete the challenge for each day, they can turn their calendar in at the end of the month. The completed calendars will be put in a drawing for a chance to win a prize.  Prizes for the month of November include Skymax Jump Arena, Snow Tubing at Boston Mills Ski Resort, Lunch with Mr. Hamilton and more! After the drawing, Mr. Hamilton will return the calendars to each student. Students will then have the opportunity to send in their calendar for an exclusive ticket offer from the Canton Charge. Good luck!

Please click on the link below to watch a promotional video featuring Avondale students and Mr. Hamilton preparing for his Just Plain Dance performance on Nov. 14th at GOHS.  We will ask Avondale students to bring a dollar on "Dollar Day," Nov. 4th, to help support Mr. Hamilton in his performance.  Donations help support the Plain Local Community Center for the Arts.

Sweat Pant Drive
Please consider donating any gently worn sweat pants to be used when students need a change of clothes during the day.  You may drop off donations in the green and gold box located in the school lobby.  The drive will be ongoing through the winter months.

Community Christmas Coat Collection

Last year over 4,000 coats were collected and distributed to our Stark county residents.  It's anticipated this season that the need for clean, warm coats may increase due to the forecast of another cold winter.  With your help we will be able to supply these coats to those in our neighborhoods who need.  The coat drive has already begun and will run through December 5th.  The Community Christmas drop-box is located in the school lobby.

After-School Enrichment Programs
These great programs have begun!  Please be sure to pick up your student promptly at the end of each class.  Thank you.

Line Dancing--Mondays 4-4:45pm
Running Club--Tuesdays 4-4:30pm
Yoga for Kids--Thursdays 4-4:35pm

All classes are full for the fall, so please keep an eye out for spring class information in a few months.

Fundraiser Update
Our catalog fundraiser has come to a close.  We are so grateful for all of your support and participation.  Detailed information will be coming soon about top sellers, prizes, and profit.

Box Tops, Labels for Education, and Market Day
Please continue to bring in Box Tops and Labels for Education.  Our teachers are able to purchase many items for their classrooms with these programs.  Our school gets cash directly from the Box Top program.  You may turn in Box Tops and Labels for Education at any time.

Market Day is a fundraiser that benefits our school greatly; please consider purchasing some delicious food from this program.  Items are delivered to the school and can be picked up in the office.

Sincerely,
