OCD Behaviors
If you or your child struggles with any type of body-focused repetitive behaviors, such as skin picking, hair pulling or nail biting, one of the most effect ways to combat these habits is through Habit Reversal Training. 

Habit reversal training (HRT) is learning to develop a competing response to the impulse behavior. 

It is doing something different, for a minute or two, in place of the self-defeating habit.

The first step is to be aware that the behavior is about to take place. 

Usually this comes in the form of an urge, a sensation or a negative thought. These are your triggers.

Once you identify your trigger, understand that you have a choice, right then and there, to do something different.

You may then opt to squeeze your fists, or your toes, to counteract the sensation. This is a technique used to unplug from the energy you typically give your urges.

Or you might immediately repeat an affirmation in your mind such as:

I AM STRONG. I AM CREATING HEALTHY HABITS. I AM AT PEACE.

Remember, you cannot hold a negative and a positive thought in your mind at the same time. Therefore, choose your thoughts carefully in order to navigate your life from a place of power.

Consider it an opportunity to defeat your gremlins. 

Moment by moment, choosing healthier responses to the maladaptive behaviors, until they become akin to the temper tantrums of a petulant child that you merely pat on the head, giving them no additional attention whatsoever. 

Because you know better. 

When you get to this place, and you will when you stay the course, that's when you know you've won.

So First, What is Nutritional Yeast?
Nutritional Yeast is a deactivated yeast related to brewer's yeast, which is used as a fermentation agent in beer making. The yeast is grown on a food source - some brands use molasses - then harvested, heated, dried and crumbled. This process deactivates the yeast, so it cannot be used in baking as a leavening agent, and creates a wonderfully nutty, tasty and versatile ingredient.  

What's "Nutritional" About It?
Nutritional yeast flakes are packed with a number of vitamins and minerals, many of which are of particular interest to vegetarians and vegans. It's also got significant amounts of protein and fiber. And, in case you're wondering, it's gluten-free, although as always you should check individual labels to make sure that they're certified as such.
