February 2015
Relationships
A good friend of mine says "It's all about relationships." This month, consider taking time to deepen your relationships on a daily basis.

Maybe it's a simple stopping of what you're doing to fully listen to your children, your husband, your co-worker, your students, your parents.

Maybe it's sending a text, if you're uncomfortable with emotions, to let someone know how much you value their friendship, their character, or they way they always face the day with positive energy.

Take the time to schedule lunch with friends, a cup of tea to catch up with neighbors, family dinners- even time daily to deepen the relationship with yourself- through exercise, meditation, reading, pampering.
If your relationship with yourself isn't a healthy one, how can you expect healthy relationships with
others?

The lyrics in "Say" by John Mayer, say it best.

"Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You better know that in the end
It's better to say too much
than to never say what you need to say again.

Even if your hands are shaking,
and your faith is broken,
even as the eyes are closing,
do it with a heart wide open. "

Perfect.

This February, choose to prioritize your relationships, both with yourself and with others.

You'll always feel better that you did.

Happy February!

 Jill

Looking to continue the healthy momentum you've been building in January?

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Here are a few small steps you can try to take every day to keep you on course and feeling great!

  1. Say yes to nutrient dense foods. Its easier than thinking about what not to eat! Incorporate more greens and colorful veggies into your meals!

  2. Say yes to whole grains. You don't have to say no to pasta! Try incorporating whole grains, brown rice, quinoa or barley...

  3. Believe it or not, you don't need added oils to make the foods you love. Try steam frying/sauteeing with a little water. When baking try applesauce instead of oil!

  4. Build a healthy balanced plate. Putting the spot light on whole grains, veggies, fruits and keeping servings of meat as more of a side dish.

Quote of the Month:

"Once a human being has arrived on this earth, communication is the largest single factor determining what kinds of relationships he makes with others and what happens to him in the world about him."

Note from Jill:
As a collector of children's books, I quickly added Rain Reign to my bookshelf.
A beautiful, heartfelt story that works with the emotion of empathy for children as well.
