I'm going to toss out a simple breathing technique this month that I seem to be talking about a lot lately. For various reasons, July has proven to be quite a challenging month for many....
I originally adopted this breathing technique from Andrew Weil, M.D. and over the years have put my own spin on it. It is a grounding technique I personally find very helpful.
The 4-7-8 breathing exercise is as follows:
Breathe in deeply for 4 breaths- nice and slow, breathing in good, healthy, positive healing energy.
Hold that light filled fueling energy and circulate it throughout your body for a count of 7 seconds. Think of it as a balloon in your belly that you are filling up with good quality air.
When you get to 7, nice and deeply, exhale for a count of eight, s-l-o-w-l-y, visualizing letting go of all of the stress, the fear, the toxins, the unnecessary negativity that is not serving your spirit.
Then repeat again.
Do this for 3-7 cycles each time. If you can, repeat this exercise a few times each day. All you need is a straight spine. You can do before you get out of bed, you can do in sitting meditation, or even in the car.
It may be awkward at first- hard to breathe in and hold, and then exhale for that long. Practice. You'll get it. It helps in taking those anxious, fretful feelings and grounding them rather quickly. Try it and see.
Give yourself the time this August to be good to yourself by savoring each moment, by being present, mindful, and emotionally available in order to get the most out of the moments of each day. Breath work helps you to do just that- to slow down in order to live more peacefully and powerfully within yourself which then allows you to better impact the world in a more positive way.
This really is the most important thing after all, yes?
Happy August!

We will play behind the studio in the playground area. Just drive around Country Curtains, behind the shopping center, and you will see the play area. In the event of rain, we will hold the workshop in the studio.
