Should you have a child that exhibits OCD symptoms such as ritualistic behaviors and/or perseverating thoughts, whatever course of action you ultimately decide to take in dealing with this, please simply consider teaching him or her how to distinguish between good thoughts and negative thoughts.
Examples of the not so good ones:
- If I don't have things straight in my room, then something bad will happen to me or my family..
OCD is rooted in the issue of control.
If we feel powerless in the face of things that are happening beyond our control, we come up with ways to deal. We find things that we can control, or that we think we can.
Explain to your child that we all have positive and negative thoughts in our heads. The negative thoughts are the ones that make us feel bad. The positive thoughts are the ones that cause us to feel strong and powerful: "I am a great friend, I am a good student, I am thoughtful and kind."
I believe that the brain is malleable and that when we learn healthier ways to deal with habits that do not serve us, we can transform ourselves. At any age.
If this is your family situation, teach your child that there are always going to be positive and negative thoughts in our mind. For us adults, these are the voices of either Ego or the Highest Self.
All thoughts have an energetic vibration of either fear or of love. Encourage your child to identify and tune in to the fearless one. The one that tells him that everything is okay, and that he is perfect just the way he is.
You can choose to do this by conversing with your child and also by role modeling the way you live your life. The more YOU become fearless and recognize that the thoughts that make you feel badly are the very ones you need to unplug from, the stronger and healthier you become. One choice at a time.
There are always these opposing thoughts. It is up to you, and yes, to your child, to choose which voice you pay attention to.
Happy Hibernation Time - Happy February!

A Note from Jill: Please consider making a small donation to support Marianne's campaign and the shift in consciousness that she is helping to shape.
A Message from Dr. Wayne Dyer
Marianne Williamson is one of my very favorite people and I'm proud that she's running for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from California's Congressional District 33.
When Marianne asked if I would be one of her campaign co-chairmen, I was immediately on board. To have someone like Marianne in Congress is really something I've foreseen for many years. I believe that when enough of us start living from a place of God-realization and self-actualization, we'll reach the critical mass necessary for change. When we get there, more leaders will emerge from this consciousness, more leaders who can make a difference and influence our legislation.
Marianne is running as an Independent; but for me, Marianne is on what I call the side of the angels. She represents the awareness that political decisions and legislation ought to be guided by love and kindness toward one another. That's where Marianne is coming from and that's our future. We need to introduce a new way of thinking into our legislative process, a way of thinking that nourishes our Divine spirit.
The time has come for someone like Marianne Williamson to represent our spirit and our soul with love, peace, kindness and cooperation. I hope you will support her as I do.
If everyone who is reading this newsletter right now will donate $5 by clicking here, we can all be a part of this new consciousness. It's time to make a difference today.

This is now my 3rd year teaching the Powerful Women 6 Week Class and after over a decade of coaching, one of the concepts I've observed to be so challenging is that of inner resilience. How can we own this strengthening characteristic if we are so busy taking everything so personally?
Let's have a meaningful conversation on ways to release the opinions, thoughts and behaviors of others as well as taming the voice inside our own head, which is our biggest critic. Let's talk about why we insist on letting other people's beliefs and perceptions stick to us and the massive consequences of those choices. Let's talk about how we model these self limiting beliefs unconsciously in our families and schools. Go home with tools and an intention to be less "sticky" and not quite so "absorbent". And yes, there will be some empowering strategies to teach our children, too!
Tuesday Nights:
February 25 - April 1, 2014
